Do you think these cracks on my screen can be fixed?

    Hello all,

Somehow there appears to be a crack in the interior of my monitor (Samsung SM2343NW 23 inch LCD Monitor), which makes my monitor look like this:

    and

Is this something I can easily fix myself or get fixed (the monitor is no longer under warranty) or is the monitor done for good?

    Thanks in advance,
    Varmint

done for good as far as I am aware.

If it was a laptop you could replace the panel as that is only one part of the system (just done it on my oldest boys Dell, not an easy job, but not difficult once you find the relevant tear down instructions). But because the panel is the guts of the monitor, you will just have to replace the whole thing.

You can replace the panel on a desktop LCD monitor as well, but unless you can get a defective monitor with a good panel (same physical size and resolution) dirt cheap as a parts unit, it's usually not worth it, as the panel itself is the most expensive part of any LCD monitor or TV.

I've swapped panels quite a lot recently. Mostly 22" 1680x1050 though.
I've fixed a Samsung 2233BW (cracked panel) with a panel from a "Belinea O.Display 22" which had a dead controller board (the one with the inputs ; firmware corruption) just last week for example. Sold it on ebay for considerably more than what I paid for both defective monitors.. win-win

edit: just looked up the basic specs of the Samsung SyncMaster 2343NW .. I'd say that's a write-off.
Getting a 23" LCD panel with a resolution of 2048x1152 (wtf?!) would be damn near impossible, as it's anything but common

yep the lcd section of the panel is cracked and leaking, it will progressively get worse.

Only thing to do is replace the panel or buy new one, if it's a laptop replacement panels are around £60 off ebay, depending one model, or can be as much as £150 from an official parts store.
Ebay I've found is the best place for replacement panels.

Don't know about normal monitors or tv's, I've not changed panels on them, usually the inverter that goes on them from my experience.
