FAO: Howard/other Creative Zen Xtra 60GB owners

Yoyo. A couple of hours ago, I received a shiny new 60GB mp3 player from a rather unfriendly Citylink bloke.. anyhoo, it's currently downstairs charging (as it says it should be doing in the manual).

I was just wondering whether there was anything I should do to it before I start transferring my music onto it (backed up over 300 of mine and my partners cds!). I've downloaded all the latest drivers/software and the latest firmware. I'd just like to know whether there was anything I should be aware of before I update the firmware/install the software, or whether there's any preferable third party software I should use, please?

There is some software called Notmad Explorer which works in the same way as Creative's offerings. I personally just use Creative's software. Using Mediasource to transfer music is so easy.

Anyway let it charge... It takes like 4 hours or something. You'll know it's done cos the little battery indicator will be gone

Then just plug it in, install the software (Just the drivers, explorer software and Mediasource) and then just copy the music across. You don't need to format it or defrag or anything. It does all that itself. It's pretty much 'plug n play'

Did yours come with the leather case with a window in to view the screen? Are you likely to use it? YEs you probably are Just that mine didn't. It's the older leather case that you can't see the screen through

Yep, got a nice window on it... though a bit of a transparent layer where the window is would have been great - to stop me scratching the screen, etc.

I doubt I'll walk around with it on my belt, but it'll stop the thing from getting scratched too much in my pocket

Lovely piece of kit though I was impatient when I got mine... Charged it next to my PC so I could start uploading, etc.

I had one, great bit of kit, personally the only thing that annoyed me was all the ID tags you have to do on the tracks so they go in the right categories etc otherwise you just end up with one hoooge category!

They are gonna be coming down in price soon with the introduction of the new models by creative, I will buy another MP3 player, big question at the mo is if anything will beat the mini ipod....

whats the difference between the zen and the zen NX?

im after one, but duno if i can afford one or not. 269.99 is a lot, but then again 60gb is a lot of space

The original Zen has less features. It doesn't have a removable battery. I can't really remember what else is different But not a lot.

It's worth the money imho. It sounds fantastic, built very well and is easy to use

Currently uploading 30GB worth of mp3s onto it now :> Can't wait to have a proper play with it when it's all on there.

Swafeman - do a search for one on kelkoo, the second result (I think..) is from C&A Computers, and costs £249.99 + P&P@ £6.99. Delivery may be fairly expensive, but it's next business day via citylink. The other cheapest I could find was at ebuyer.. I have a free delivery token, but couldn't be bothered waiting a week for it to arrive for just a couple of quid less.

Took me a couple of minutes to get the hang of the software, but it's pretty easy when you get used to it.

My only regret is not getting a motherboard with USB2.0.. so I'm uploading at 1.1 speeds :O

I'm damn lucky the NF7-S has USB2. Lol. Takes a while even at those speeds. It averages about 1 MP3 per second.

I'm trying to get my hands on a little professionally made portable headphone amp for it... That will help things
