I heard there was going to be a film made.. So I duly IMDB'ed for it.

I thought HOW the hell can Mos Def play ford prefect ? it makes me weep at the prospect of another work of genius being remade with bloody r 'n B/rapper sensibilities because it is considered cool at the moment. This is not the essense of the character. Ford with bling ???

These books and the tv series still give me fuzzy feelings because they were great. Probably a defining influence on me.

What do you guys think this film will be like ? am I being overly pessimistic ? 42 is everyones magic number.

Well, I still think that digital watches are a pretty cool idea... Anyway...

I don't think that this book would translate very well into a film tbh, most of the really good stuff is the little one liners like "Arthur in fact thought that.." sort of things, and like him looking out of the window and thinking "yellow..." at the beginning of the book. As well as the load of "The hitchikers guide to the galaxy has this to say about the (eg pangalactic gargle blaster):..."

Maybe Im just being a pessimist, Id love to see it turn out well as its one of the funniest books I've ever read, but I just can't see how it would work well tbh.

For those of us of a certain age the BBC series will probably be definitive & no remake (even with a big budget unlike the Beeb) will touch it.

Also. Personally I can't see how they are going to get by now that the tv/radio computer voice guy is dead. Peter Jones was it ?

Great - its being made by americans

We'll have to wait and see - although there is a new series to the radio version comming soon, Douglas adams was part way through writing it when he died, so someone else has finished it and its being made into a radio series. They are also using douglas adams voice in the program as he read alot of the parts as a screen test.
