Final Destination just simply because death didn't take physical form,
Gattaca for a simple view on life, on how human ambition and self belief can conquer all prejudice.
Forrest Gump - for a HUGE feel good and feel sad factor.
Sweet November - because the topic was rather close to heart.

One Eight Seven with Samual L Jackson. Gets to me because it shows the courage of one teacher who even though is stabbed by a student, comes back to teach and help probably one of the worst schools in the USA! The last scene around the table is just so powerful and Mr Jackson is one amazing actor!
Also, as mentioned above, Saving Private Ryan, Shawshank Redemption, Schindlers List, Castaway. Probably others too.
Of course, the LOTR films!
A.I.
alright it was a crud film but the vision of our ice-covered world inhabited by spindly telepathic bods....hmmmm....deeep

I just found it too. Jesus H Christ, it had me physically grabbing my chair! Those gaps he flys through. I need a cigarette after watching that.Originally Posted by Tumble

Sorry, back to topic...
oh this thread is superb
I'll go with Knox on American History X, for the pure racism and the depth of the opening scene. Not much makes me wince but I winced in a big way.
Then The Green Mile because its the Tom Hanks film that, in the odd place, actually outdoes Forrest Gump, which is hard to do.
The Breakfast Club because it IS so deep.
One was the most recent I've seen... Bourne Supremacy because I have NEVER seen a spy film that has so totally grappled my head with its reality. Every character does what I would do (had I enough time to think it through). And when I really thought it was all over in the chases, the film shows me a route out that I never ever saw. The intellect of the tricks and cunning know no bounds but are all 100% legit.
And the last is Battle Royale because the depth of the story is simple. Only one person comes home alive. There is no point in teaming up because you must kill your team later on. Even your girlfriend must die somehow because if not, you do. There is no escape. Many more springtomind but those are all fine examples

For serious, crazy speed then you need Ghostrider- the final ride, and specifically parts 2 and 3. The guy in Ghostrider clearly is an extremely good rider, but as amazing as it is to watch it's also a bit distasteful because they seem to have done it with a view to selling the video, which is a bit out of order when you're endangering people.
Rich :¬)
Zak, how could I forget about battle royale, the night i watched that I spent hours just thinking about what i'd do put in the same situation with all my mates
12 Angry Men - the subtle juxtaposition of so many positive and negative human personality triats, weaved into the story of one mans fight to do right by another human being
The Iron Giant - I'm a big softy so the superman bit at the end has me in tears every time I see it
Blade Runner (directors cut) - the age old question "What makes us human?"
If it ain't broke, fetch a bigger hammer
My list is WAY too long....
I have to agree with Dead Poets Society and Forrest Gump, but also,
Leon gets me every time I see it,
The Bridges of Madison County makes me cry more than any films I've seen,
Saving Private Ryan and Black Hawk Down both made me think about the horrors of war, without it feeling as though they were made for entertainment,
A Beautiful Mind was incredibly sad and very well made,
About A Boy is just... hard to explain what it is about that....
Monsters Inc and Ice Age make me laugh,
and Existenz and Blair Witch Project both terrified me!
...and there must be lots more!!!!
I've had a lot of sobering thoughts in my time.... It was them that started me drinking.

I know what Dead Poets does to almost anyone who sees it..thats what he means.
I thought of another.
BRASSED OFF
A better film is hard to imagine.
and About a Boy is one of the best ever. That got me inside and made me feel for all the teasing and cruelty kids do to each other

"Shadowlands", "Saving Privaye Ryan", "It's A Wonderful Life", "The Shawshank Redemption" leap to mind. Anyone who doesn't choke a little when Clarence gets his wings should probably be checked for vital signs...
