Where do you get your Blank Discs from ?

Im asking because the past few times ive bought any out of tesco their usually crap ( or my external drive is ) due to this recurring issue of new disks being shown as full .

This hasnt happened so much with RW discs just the other sort usually leaving me with half the amount I paid for ( if im lucky )

Has this happened to anyone else here ?

Re: Where do you get your Blank Discs from ?

Where I get mine varies, and has varied a lot over the years. It also depends on what I'm getting them for, like a PC recorder, or a domestic recorder. Sometimes it's mail order, but I'd rather buy locally if I can. Fortunately, I've got a very good small, local shop that stocks the disks. I prefer (in part because I asked them to, and they asked why I wanted that brand and I told them, so now they stock them), so usually, I just buy locally. It costs me a pound or so more than buying via Scan, etc, would, but there's no postage costs, I can get them within 15 minutes of needing them, and there's no chance of the usual courier shuffle.

None of which helps you much. Sorry.

Re: Where do you get your Blank Discs from ?

Sadly all the online retailers I used to use are no longer going. Last discs I bought are from Tesco's (unopened). I now use cyclone media players and rip the dvd's to hard drive. Much easier, plus dvd's I have burned in the past now look tatty and have marks from being in a cd wallet.

SVP or Scan with free shipping. I generally buy a couple hundred CDs, a hundred DVDs and a 25 pack of DL DVDs.

I still produce & mfr the odd 50x music CDs for old customers, but most are used in my CDROM and my own audio CDs (Trad Irish music feat me on bodhran )

    RiTek full face printables usually.

    Ebay

Cheaper than any place around here I could get them as there is a surcharge on blank media here.

Used to use Ebay until I started getting fake Taiyo Yuden dyes

These days I'll just tack them onto any normal commuter order I make.

Re: Where do you get your Blank Discs from ?

aone dual layers - yup got 3 packs.

immediately coastered 1 disc, updated firmware, coastered another, then it started coastering normal single layers.
got a new dvd writer (out of a skip, someone chucked a whole comnputer out, psu had blown up in it, fried the mobo, dvd writer only thing still working) that works, written 15 more dual discs, no problem.

just make sure your firmware/drive is bang up to date.

old drive was a samsung sh203 summat or other, shows up as an OEM in device manager, bought in march 2009.
    new ones a sh223C.

and other than the usual add it onto scan order. try 'the range' or matalan (cant remember which, might not have been either), bought some cheap verbatims in there a while ago (3 years) £6 for 50 back then.

ive seen some in poundland/poundstretcher/<insert random generic sounding 99p/£1 shop>/wilkinsons. i think they were 10pack for a £1, not sure on the brand.

Yip, I use Aone plus double layer gold edition 8x DVD+R, tried cheaper versions previously and kept getting write failures and coasters.

    From http://www.scan.co.uk/products/25pcs...intable-240min or http://www.7dayshop.com/aone-dvd-r-d...x0Lz9xPWFvbmU=

Re: Where do you get your Blank Discs from ?

As others have said, Dual layers are hit or miss. Tried cheap ones but they always seem to get die bleeding and fail. Great price for the aone discs found by macadee, I was paying £2 for 5 on ebay and thought they were cheap. Just been looking about and can't believe how expensive normal dvd's are, I used to pay £11 per 100 for the maxell gold discs.

Re: Where do you get your Blank Discs from ?

I know this is a very "fan-boi" sounding opinion but i tend to stick to Verbatim since having loads of problems with cheap media, i used to check the quality of my discs by holding them upto a light source and depending on how much light you can actually see through the disc would give you an idea of the amount of wasted effort exerted by your reader, im not saying they need to be completely blocking out light but if they are like looking through tracing paper i'd throw them in the bin straight away as they usually end up useless in drives with old/weak lasers.

I know someone somewhere will dissagree with me but i started buying only verbatim branded lightscribe compatible media and never had a problem since..

    DVD+R's - http://www.scan.co.uk/products/10pcs...tscribe-120min

    CD's - http://www.scan.co.uk/products/10pcs...be-80min-media

As for where i buy from, i usually order online with whoever has stock when i need them, Overclockers.co.uk / Scan.co.uk / Amazon.co.uk / Play.com
