    Question HiFi speakers?

Well after a long saga trying to get my NAD C320 fixed it is finally back and working properly.

But after the year of hassle it took to get it fixed i found that one of my Mission m71s is f****d . Having hardly used it I was a bit pissed off . Anyway they only cost me £30 so not too bothered but I dont know what to get instead.

I'm looking for something in the £100-200 price bracket.

Ive been thinking of the AE Aegis Evo 1 which seem to be well thought of.

    Any ideas .

Do you have a preference to stand mounts or would you consider floorstanders?

http://www.richersounds.co.uk/index....l.php&p=206340 < Bargin floor standers from good old richers.

Or theirs always the sexeh Mordaunt Short's that you can get - http://www.richersounds.co.uk/index....l.php&p=301822

£100-200, Wharfedale 8.3s ... nothing better in that category that I've heard There starting to get a little sparse as the Diamond9s are out now, but lots of places still have stock.

You could get some pritty good much older speakers from eBay - like some Ditton44s or something ... I did that and they sound great, just gotta be careful of overdriven/damaged speakers and they will look 'retro'

I'm afraid it'll have to be stand/wall mounts. I just cant be sure we will have space floor floor standers .

Those Morduant Shorts look nice and I'll keep an eye out for some Diamond 8s . Although the 8.3s are floor standers arnt they?

After what happened with my NAD amp I am not ging to risk buying far afield/ebay etc so will just have to see what i can get here in Cork.

Got a NAD 320 as well - I tried out the Monitor Audio Bronze B2's which sounded quite good and are the right price. I didn't get them in the end as I sold a few odds and ends and bought Quad 11l's. I think the new Wharfedale 9.1's are supposed to be quite good as well but haven't heard them personally.

I've not heard the Diamond 8.2s but they'd fit your budget. At the top end of your budget you could look at getting some bottom of the range B&Ws at around £170 ... listen to them first as although there very true to the music alot of people think they sound too bright (we have a pair of B&W 605s downstairs and I think they sound great, but some people think otherwise).

Yeah - the Diamond 9.1s are getting all the awards although I've not heard them yet ... will do soon as I have time.

Arn't the Quad 11 L's double the price of the Monitor Audio Bronze B2's?

Yeah I know. Bought them on impulse at christmas when my missus said I could treat myself. Justified it to myself by thinking I would upgrade the rest of my stuff next year. I actually got them for £330 - Atacama stands were 50 though. Don't regret it now I've (eventually) paid for them.

I don't own a set but I have heard them and was pretty damm impressed. Was tempted to buy some 2 months ago but my wallet got the better of me and i opted for gale 3020. Still good and match my kit nicley.

Steer clear from the gales anyway, they do look as if theyve been hammered together out of a few bits of MDF. But then for £119 its to be expected.

I've still got my B&W DM601 S2's and they still sound great, if i was to upgrade soon, it would be to Quad 11/12L's though they look and sound like a million dollars, but only cost £350/£500.

Thanks guys lots of possibilities there .

The Quad 11ls are bit much for me (it sounds even worse in euros ).

I like it - quite a warm sound compared to others, but I'm not a fan of anything thats too bright. Its got a nice musical sound thats good with vocals. Powerwise it feels a lot stronger than its rating. Overall, considering the cost, build quality etc I am more than happy with it and I've found it a good match for the Quads.

Ok finally got the time to drop in to Munster Sounds (Richer Sounds clone ) to check out what they have in they way of suitable speakers.

They have the Wharfedale Diamond 8.3 floor standers for E199
Diamond 8.1 stand mounts for E160
Some Morduant Short stand mounts (not sure what model) for E199
    Monitor Audio B1 for E199
    Monitor Audio B2 for E260

I think I'll go for the Monitor Audio B2s. They seem to be well thought of and kind of suit my situation at the moment where I'm stuck for space .
