Does an iPad mini make a good eBook reader or do people think a dedicated device like a Kindle or Nook are better, even if it means having two devices instead of just the one ?

I think this thread is relevant to you.

Whether it is an iPad or a Nexus it doesn't matter, they are all LCD based screens and that's the point.
Thanks, I will go and have a read
a dedicated device like a Kindle or Nook is good, it's convenient and easy to use. i love ipad mini~~
Retina is vital if you want to buy LCD based device. Considering its resolution, HD resolution minimize your fatigue of eyes.
I actually don't like using my iPad for reading ebooks. I prefer the kindle because of the no shine that you get off the screen, much easier to read off!
I use mine to read on but it's not great when outside so would use a kindle.
Reading outside: Kindle because you won't get the glare.
iPad Mini is a good little reader if you don't mind a little glare in a well lit room.
I haven't used a Nook as I have a Kindle, but they are only £29 atm
Depends on what system you would like to use.
With more hardware power, the Kindle Fire HD packs far more punch than iPad Mini. If you’re looking for bang for your buck, you absolutely get it here.
While iPad Mini has more games, it has more productivity apps and it has more eBooks.
I have both a e-ink Kindle Paperwhite and a Nexus 7 (2013) and I love them both. They are great at what they do... I wouldn't watch videos, play games and browse the net on my kindle but then I also wouldn't want to read a whole book on my Nexus.
The fact you can pick up an e-ink ebook reading for £30 (nook simple) I say have both but I guess it depends how much you read.

The Kindle is a great eReader. But thats it. A Nexus or iPad Mini while costing more (the latter a lot more) will do more for you. However personally the non iPad Mini without the Retina screen was not great for text. I found the screen to be just slightly blurred which annoyed me. The Retina Mini out later this month will be great for reading text. If the Mini is still out your budget, the Nexus 7 is still a great choice.
I love my nook, it has a huge battery life, is easy to read and is very clear. I am sure the kindle is the same.
If you are going to be doing a lot of reading, I would get one of these, however, if you will only read occasionally, an LCD screen will do the job.
I believe that Kindle is better for reading as you can't do other things with it
See, this is why I hated the idea of Amazon bringing out the Kindle Fire things. They have LCD screens. I don't fancy going blind trying to read my books thanks.
For reading, always go e-ink. Put a lamp on at night if you read in bed. Just like the good old days.
Geoffrey above has a good point too actually, no distractions by having other crap on it. I'd hate to be engrossed in a book and then thrown out of my imagination by a Facebook notification.
After owning a full sized Ipad and a Kindle I would say defiantly get a Kindle. The screen is so much better to read off for long periods of time and they are very cheap.
on the other hand you can read off of an Ipad and you get a ton of extra features/apps. so its up to you really for what your going to be using it for.
