Sony RDR-GX3 DVD recorder - experiences?

I've just bought one of these, and whilst I'm very pleased with its versatility and recording options, I've noticed that I can't use DVD-RW discs in any of the other DVD players in my house (including a Pioneer DV-444), even after finalising the disc. I'm planning to replace the aforementioned Pioneer with another Sony at the end of the month, so that's not too much of a problem, but I'm concerned about running into more problems with this recorder. Surely it should be able to make compatable discs?

Even though it's a finalised disc, the player you play it back in has to support the reading of DVD-RW. RW discs reflect even less light than the DVD-R discs, which reflect a lot less than pressed DVDs, and not many older players have lasers sensitive enough to read the DVD-RW discs.

I'm going to try a -R tonight and see how it goes.

Well, the -R worked fine in the living room DVD player, but only after being finalised. Before finalising, it seemed to know something was there, but wouldn't play it. Now I just have to test it in the other two upstairs.
