I met him twice, both times he was at a gig of a local band I used to 'manage'. He was a genuinely interesting, down to earth chap.
To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.
Yep, a sad day, truely an inspiration to huge amount of people, even i used to listen to his late sessions, and i'd certainly not consider myself into "fringe" music.
But he always had an interesting view on things.
May he rest in piece.

I'll always remeber listening to John Peel's show on my way back from my Gf's when I was first seeing her - the way he'd play some 50's music and follow it up with some hard drum and bass would always bring a smile to my face - one the most eclectic music tastes ever.

Unbelievable but he listened to every single demo tape etc he recieved.Thats what kind of guy he was.He gave everyone a chance. He survived all the radio 1 sackings etc over the years.Very sad day in the world of music. R.I.P.Originally Posted by Zedmeister

Very sad news indeed, R.I.P John Peel.
Anyone see Jarvis out of pulp on the news tonight ?
If it wasn't for John playing pulp and giving them a session slot on his show Jarvis reckoned nobody would have heard of pulp.
John was a legend - He is totally 100% unreplaceable. I have a lot of great memories of listening to his show and something rubbish would be on then all of a sudden he would play the most bizarrest dance/d&b song ever and thus it would become an anthem overnight. He was one of the most powerful people in the industry and radio 1 will not be the same without him I feel.
