So true - he was above and beyond his time ... what a lossHe became one of the first DJs to give exposure to punk, reggae, hip-hop, before they crossed over into the mainstream.
Indeed
He was a national institution with a unique voice and a unique view on music as a whole. He will be missed...
Im absolutely gob-smacked!

The man is a legend.
If you're not living on the edge, you take up too much room
Only 65 as well; that's no age these days.
Shocking.
The man is a legend and a national institution. He will be missed for sure. I will listen to some music tonight in tribute to the man who championed music, especially rare and often unheard of genres...
Just seen it on the BBC website. Man, I'm shocked, such a shame.
RIP John
Rip
Living and dying laughing and crying
Once you have seen it you will never be the same
Life in the fast lane is just how it seems
Hard and it is heavy dirty and mean
Deeply sad day for all who've ever listened to his glorious tones.

That is one hell of a record collection! Wonder how many demo tapes he's received over the years as well?
Very sad day, Very sad day.

Damn.
Im genuinely sad. Its the end of an era.
What am i gonna listen to?
A sad, sad loss...
Truly a great man. I was so shocked when I heard. And so sad. There is nobody that could ever fill John's shoes. Whether it be for his support of the music scene, or his ability to make you agree with everything he said on 'Grumpy Old Men'. To his heartwarming show 'Home Truths' on Radio 4, which I always enjoyed immensely.
God speed John
