The series of "Fist of the North Star" got me into Manga... I used to come home drunk on Friday nights and would sit down with a kebab watching 4Later - which Fist of the North Star appeared on among many other classic programs - Bits, Vidz, and the whole Tromas Edge TV/french Vampire softporn films thing. I cried when 4Later was axed. Cried, I did.

Anyhow, long after FotNS had finished being shown on 4Later, I came across a VHS of the film in a really strange shop in scarborough (they had boxes of vinyls sitting outside, with a sign saying "Take these, please"). Managed to hackle the storeman down from a fiver to two squid, took the video home... in Bolton, watched it, loved it.

Quite ridiculous in places, but a classic in my opinion. Even brought a tear to my eye when I saw the credits footage.

Ninja Scroll, AKIRA, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Kikis Delivery Service and Lupin 3 - Castle of ASDFACEADSCAS (can't remember the name of it) are all very good films to ease you into things. Ohoh, give Spirited Away a watch too, if you missed it in the cinema. Preferably the original version with english subtitles.
