They won't turn off analogue until a large proportion of the population has freeview (think it's 85-90%). They've got to make sure the whole country is covered too. Still, in 2010, a freeview box will be so cheap to make it wouldn't surprise me if the government gave them out for free to the last few people who didn't have them. TBH I can't see why anyone wouldn't want freeview, more channels, better quality. If the government get to sell the analogue frequencies for other stuff, then in theory we all benefit from that.
As for HDTV- AFAIK, there are few or no CRT tellies that support it unfortunately. It's a shame, since I still prefer CRT to any other type of display, even plasma.
