Light to dark movement/distortion in CRT TVs

I've noticed a lot of CRT TVs seem to flex when light changes dramatically. I initially noticed it on my parents cheap Goodmans widescreen, straight lines being distorted and movement when something onscreen happens. However I noticed it also on a friends JVC and I was in the Sony store today where it was also present (although much less). Is this just the price you pay for using a CRT screen or have any manufacturers minimised it?

Bizarrely I saw a Grundig in Curry's showing a 4:3 picture on a widescreen and its edges were spot on straight. The screen was excellent, the casing not so.

It's often difficult to get perfect gemoetry on cheaper (LIke sub-£1000) CRTs, and horizontal lines will not always be perfectly straight. It does it on our £500 Panasonic 100Hz flatscreen TV downstairs. If you turn off widescreen mode, then the edges aren't always perfectly straight with a 4:3 picture. It can sometimes be down to bad voltage regulation of the EHT, but I find this hard to believe on new, decent-enough TVs.
You've just gotta live with it I think, unless you're willing to spend thousands, or get an LCD telly

What Panasonic do you have? I was thinking of getting the TX-28PM11C. I haven't seen it running yet though.

Looks like the older version of what I'm considering. How have you found it? would you reccomend Panasonic?

It's excellent. I'd wholeheartedly recommend panaasonic. I have a 12-odd year old Panasonic 24" TV in my bedroom which still has superb picture quality

my 100hz toshiba widescreen is utter crap for this kinda thing - it pincussions badly, particularly when there are bright colours filling the screen. atop of that the colours distort in the top right corner

want to replace it, but there is STILL no sign of hdtv in this country - how long will we have to wait?? dont want to spend £1500 (my budget) on a new telly, only to find it superseeded in 2 years time..

my parent's hitachi widescreen does this, but not excessively so. yet another pro for buying a lcd screen then...

Thanks for the info guys, I checked out a Panasonic in Comet before a salesman started badgering me, seemed ok. I'll try and get another look in better surroundings (John Lewis). Unfortunatly I saw the DVB version that looked a little bit cooler than the standard one. Then again it helped it had a solid digital source than the fuzzy coax input the rest of the tellies were using.
