    Die Hard

I didn't fancy watching a film tonight, but instantly changed my mind when I saw that Die Hard was on- I couldn't remember the last time I'd seen it, which meant I really had no choice. Frankly, the ITV controller should be flayed for the heresy of putting it either side of the news

Anyway though...can any action film ever top it? I really don't think so. I genuinely think it's pretty much perfect in every way. John McLaine is the pinnacle of the flawed-but-decent action hero. Alan Rickman is the archetypal European badguy. No film has such a fine balance of action, humour, satire, and characteristion as this. Others have done the humour and satire (Robocop, Total Recall, Demolition Man) while Terminator 2 just about outdoes it in the action stakes, but IMO nothing can top Die Hard as the complete package.

I only hope that by the time my (yet to be born) kids are old enough to see it, I have the kit to show it to them in 1080p on a massive screen with the full surround sound treatment.

Not sure about "topping" it, but in my eyes Lethal Weapon and Die Hard are on a par and both very, very cool films

Both are good, Die Hard's humour is differnt tho as LW's is more humour between Danny and Mel...

By the time your sprogs are old enough there will be a sub-standard remake and they will only watch that and think little of it. Or worse they will think the crappy remake is the best film ever!

I'd argue that Predator is the best action film every made - but agree that when it comes a mixture of satire and action Die Hard is probably right at the top

    Die hard is immense...lol

Hostage is a bit poor imo...saw it and its alright, but no where near the excellence of Die Hard.

Also I am the only person who like Die Hard 2: Die harder.....thats the best subtitle thing ever

Agreed that its right up there but rate Conair as highly for the action/humour mix.
