What is the best movie of all time?

Just thought i'd start a ikkle talk on this, because lots of people have different views on movies and i just want to see what people think are "quality" films and are good enough to be the best films of all time

Personally, mine is Lord Of The Rings, because a lot of time has been put into these films, and look at the final product!

    Cheers

    Martin

I would have to agree that the Lord of the Rings films are absolutely mint. Just watching the second cd on the two towers will give you an idea of how much work has been put into them.

I would also consider the Matrix all the second part has let the side down a little. Closely followed by the Star Wars series, but again the earlier 3 were the best being let down by the latest two.

Caligula, in my opinion. Malcolmn McDowell and Helen Mirren at their best. Some may say that McDowell was best in A Clockwork Orange, but his performance in Caligula was far more intense.

The best film i've seen is Schindler's List, a masterpiece!

I've never seen Casablanca or Citizen Kane and others supposed contenders for the 'best movie of all time', which at some point i shall rectify, but at the moment i can't compare.

The Godfather trilory is also thrown around as being the best, and while they are superb films, they don't quite cut it for me, nor does the Shawshank Redemption.

Hopefully i should be getting the Seven Saumrai tommorow so i can see how that stacks up

While i enjoyed LOTR, The Matrix and Star Wars, very much so, they're all very good movies, any of them the best movie of all time? it's a big title!

Fav film of all time for me has to be Blade Runner.

Way ahead of it's time for a 1982 film, great cinematography, very atmospheric and Rutger Hauer was cast brilliantly as the renegade replicant leader.

There are SO many excellent films around, all completely different, that it's IMPOSSIBLE to choose just one!!!!
LOTR is ace, as is Green Mile, Shawshank Redemption, About a Boy, Notting Hill, Great Escape..... too many to mention, and can't choose a favourite!!

I've had a lot of sobering thoughts in my time.... It was them that started me drinking.

I dont think we can really talk about LOTR as the best film ever until the final one is out, same with the Matrix. Personally I dont think I could pick the best movie ever made but these are my favourites:
Classic Film: To Kill A Mocking Bird
    Modern Film: The Shawshank Redemption
Comedy: When Freddy Got Fingered i know it's sick
    War Film: Saving Private Ryan
    Ingenious: Fight Club
Foreign Film: Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
    Sci-Fi: Blade Runner or Alien
    Most Moving: The Green Mile
Low Budget: Night of the Living Dead
