Right, can anyone source the 42" online right now? I've been searching for it the last couple of days with intention to order, but I can't find a 42" LCD version anymore, even though I've seen it in shops, although I have seen a 40" Rome version, but this costs £1499, which is more than the 42" version did!

Must have been the bigger model I saw then, but I was sure it was 42". So how does the 42" Plasma compare? What would you advise, 42" Plasma, or the 40" LCD, or another 42" by a different brand (state here)?

I have spent ages playing with the LCD TV's i've listed now, retail stores have been plagued by a persistant person trying out all sorts of content and configurations on them, and i'm sadly disappointed by some parts of all the services.

Even though i'm still tempted by screens as the X360 looks awesome in the higher res, i'm just not convinced yet and i'm putting my money on hold for a little while longer.

LCD TV's are going the same way as LCD's have done this year, dropping through the floor in price, I know its the old saying that enjoy the product while you can, but i'm feeling that a few more months will save you a whole heap of cash or get you a much better quality screen.

Also i would have to say that if you can afford it panasonic's the way to go because its no lie that every time i've seen a panny setup its looked awesome and overall is the best system across all mediums.

Sorry its taken me so long to post, think this is my first post of 2006... and first in several weeks

Thanks TiG, nice to hear back from you! I've heard good things about the Panasonics, I guess I'l go into John Lewis and check 'em out since they have a wide selection. True about the prices falling - I've got my eye on Samsungs flagship (from what I can see) model - a 40" LCD, it won an award (can't remember the one but it's on the site etc.) - thing is it can't really be had for much under 2k, so I might see how it goes - still, getting rid of my 32" CRT within the next couple of weeks, so I reckon my purchase might not be too far away.
