    First Shot on 20D...

here it is folks...first shot i took this morning

a macro of a leaf outside the door. shot on the 24-70L, f2.8, 800, iso 400
having slight reservations with other shots and inconsistent metering. hopefully its fine but I'm getting soggy softness at as far as f6.3-f10 which is not good enough. and its coming and going so what the camera is playing at I've no idea but I'm going to play with it for a few days and if its still screwing around I'll take it back. flipping nightmare since it took me 5 bodies to select this one (all the others had chronic dust problems)...

It took me a good few days to get the hang of my dSLR, although I didn't have any experience with SLR cameras prior to that...

Still, what i'm saying is, give it some time

Still, a damn nice, crisp, shot. I don't know much about Canon glass... I'm assuming that your 24-70L must have a pretty small minimum focus distance?

ediity : I checked the EXIF, I beleive you now

    he he!

yes, i think it needs a little getting used to but coming from film slr to this isn't that big a leap. well, it is but the lay out is essentially the same so its easy to work around the camera. things like colour shifts, kelvin and WB slowly sort themselves out...
WB i'm used to from my little point and shoot but the kelvin stuff goes straight over my head!

I rarely make Kelvin adjustments, and only in RAW processing. Although that's as much because the camera doesn't give the option for changing them (I think)

Still, look at it this way, it's not going to cost you anything taking some time messing around with settings and taking shots

Hmm, just looked at the EXIF more...

Why such a snappy shutter? Personally, I would have lowered the ISO, and the shutter. 1/800 is pretty damn fast... Even moreso when you're only @ 70mm.

Although having said that, noise is more of an issue for me than you :s

Fair enough, i'm always doing stuff like that

Infact, i'm almost always in manual mode. I find that using shutter or aperture priority overexposes... Fine, so make an exposure adjustment... But then I forget I've made one, and it means my light meter is screwy when I flick back to full manual
