yeah, sorry i missunderstood. should have payed more attension to your sketch

yeah that looks spot on. It isn't really needed to have the patch panel, but it does make your cable management a lot easier as you should have each port numbered correctly at each end so when you want to enable a port it only takes seconds. We do this at work with about 50 ports shared between phone and data.

exactly. if you have a large B&Q near by take a look at their networking section, i got a mini 12 port patch panel from there, think it was £20 or something. decent size for me.

Well i went to the house the other day and it turns out he has already put the wire from the ariel into the house in.

Is this good quality, its type a, my old digi camera would not take a proper picture of the end lol (no manual focus)

Also he does not appear to have installed the coaxial switch type thing, whatever it was, do you always need one? Ill see what he has to say when i get to speak to him!!

    Thanks

If i remember the older posts in this thread (too lazy to go and read them again ), it wasn't a coax switch (i don't think you get them) just an amplifier like this:

    http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?...tters&doy=18m2

Find out exactly how he's wired up all the extensions. there are two possible ways. first would be to split it X times at or near the source and have a spur off to each location. The other is to run the cable to the first location, split it and then run to the next and so on.

I would imagine it would be the first way, that would be normal for TV i think (at least thats the way i have always thought of it being done). IF it is, then it shouldn't be a big deal to add an an amplifier/distributer if required. You might not actually need it though. if you are in a decent signal area and the cabling is good (new generally = good) you should be ok. Try it out first.

But is that cable any good before i go tell him to put it through the house. Apparently you tell by the ammount of braid but i dont know what to compare it to. One thing i am concerned about is the foil sheilding is not copper, i guess it is aluminium, but its actually plastcy, like it is backed onto plastic or something. Does that matter?

i wouldn't have thought so. I really don't think it would matter too much for TV signals, different if the coax was being used for data or something like that. It looks list like any other arial coax i've seen.

    Hi,

Im also planning something similar to this, I plan on running ct100 and cat5e (2 runs) to wall outlets in every room in my home. I’ve been advised not to run the wires near Electrical wiring, but will there be any line interference if running ct100 and cat5e together?, they'll both terminate onto the same 2 way gang box onto the wall socket and are run from the same location from under my stairs.

    Thanks

    Mak.
