DVD Authoring

I have a few holiday vids (mostly avis, but a few .movs recorded with my stills camera) That id like to put on a DVD to send round people. I know you can do it with payed for programs (or payed for programs that you havent payed for ) but does anyone know of a free/oss alternative? Im a bit of a cheapskate when it comes to stuff like that.

I think you can download the Nero vision express demo which should help you out.

Have a look at doom9.org i'm pretty sure there are tools there you can use.

Do you just want to put the video on disk, of do you want to have menus etc? I think menus might be a problem, but just building a video only DVD shouldn't be too hard with free/oss software.

Menus would be good, but that is probably a little ambitous.

I just use Nero. Great for doing menu's too. There is not that much you can do with DVD menu's, so you don't need anything too special.

Which would be fair enough, but i dont have vision express, and it isnt the cheapest bit of software ive ever seen.

Currently trying one out using DVD2SVCD and the guide from doom9.org, seems to be working well, although its taking donkeys
