Hi def DVD player (please help)

Can anyone reccomend a DVD player for connecting to a 32" HD LCD TV, HDMI connection and good divx/xvid playback is essential.

This one seems to fit the bill

But I cant seem to find any reviews or indication how good the playback is.

i'm not aware of any players (kiss's latest stuff might do it??) that actually output hd from an hd source - you may as well get a cheapish one and let your panel take care of it..

Basically for Standard definition (SD) material to be played on an HD tv it has to be upscaled. Your TV can to this for you but there are some DVD players which do this int eh player itself and these are often better than the TVs inbuilt one. My personal favorite is the Denon 1920 for £200 is a good quality midrange player.

However you can use anyold dvd player if you wish.

You would be best to get a DVD player that increases the resolution for you.

They cost a fair bit though so it might be worth the wait for HD DVD players to be released here in the UK.

Would a HD screen upscale a dvd automatically or is there a menu option or something?

It does it automatically. Remember though, you won't really see any major increase in quality - the panel (nor the upscaling player for that matter) can't add details that's not there, or has been xvid/divx compressed away.

Can't remember who makes it, but am pretty sure Richer Sounds have an upscaling player for ~£100 which has had some really good reviews in the home cinema press. Think my mate bougt one, will ask him what make/model it is later today & post back if I can.
