    Return of the King..no Saruman?

    Christopher Lee
The veteran actor Christopher Lee, more used to dealing out horrific punishments in a host of horror movies, has himself been given the chop, from the final part of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Return of the King. Despite this setback, the 81 year-old Lee remains very much in demand.

Does this mean they're not doing the return to the shire bit?

They've already decided not to cover the battle of Hobbiton, which is a real shame since this section shows how much the stuff happening in the east affected the whole of middle earth. The scene which has just been deleted involves Wormtongue and Saruman at Orthanc, the important part being where Wormtongue drops the Palantir from the top and Pippin later touches it.

It will all be on the SE DVD when it's out no doubt.

Why cut a film this close to the release? More hype? Bit of free advertising?

I doubt it's to get hype...they've probably got enough of that
    already...
After the final one i releasded on DVD and after the've released the 50 DVD special edition of it they'll probably do a 300 disc combined trilogy that'll take a year to watch...

I am not happy that all three of these movies have been so heavily cut. It just simply to squeeze more cash out of you whenit come to buying extended editions/ inevitable trilogy boxset etc

    I gotta comment here.

The first thing is: Most films I have seen in recent years, needed MORE cutting, not less....its a tribute to the film makers that they had SO MUCH GOOD STUFF>

Second: For me the idea of going to the big screen and watching (and frankly, LOVING) the films and then getting all excited cos the 4 disk set would be longer.....is better value for me. I dont mind paying extra for thebigger one. The Fellowship 4 disk set is just fantastic. Never had a box set that I was SO INVOLVED IN from the moment I loaded it into my DVD player. I wanted to dislike it to save money on the Two Towers multi disk set...but NOPE....Its ACE.

Third: I am not sure I could sit in the cinema for any longer than those films are set anyway.

    My £0.02

Well mine just turned up in the post (preordered from Amazon about 4 months ago...)

They've added these scenes (according to the scene list):

    Elvin Rope
    Massacre at fords of isen
    Song of Entwives
    Heir of Numenor
    Brego
    Ring of Barahir
    One of Dunedin
    Don't be hasty Mister Meriadoc
    Farngon comes to Helms Deep
A few more after battle scenes

With cuts - they only have so long they can make the film - I'm sure most of us Tolkien fans would have been fine with 6 films (one for each book...) but you can't persuade anyone to stump up the finance for that one. I like Tom Bombadil, but he's not really necessary for the plot.

Have to agree that cutting the return to the shire is a bad idea though - it shows how the experience of the war changed the Hobbits - maybe on the special edition (we live in hope).
Now go away before I taunt you a second time.

Just be thankful they didnt cut it into 6 1.5hr films. 3.5hrs is my limit tbh, if theyd left in all that they wanted to it would have been 3.5-4hrs each. At least with the DVDs people can come back to them.

I want the extended edition - i dont mind paying more cause i want to see more. The cheaper, "movie" version will suit other people though.

I absoloutley love these movies and i will definately be buying the big boxset and/or extended addition im just grumpeh that i cant see eveything now... my problem is my lack of patience.

Im wondering now.. does everyone think that the ibevitable(imo) trilogy boxset will contain the three estended editions is some kind of new packaging or will it be something different perhaps including a host of new extras ?? does anyone have any ideas from wat they may have read etc

I daresay they'll release a triology of normal
    a trilogy of extended
the a trilogy special edition, etc, etc, etc.....

I personally think these are like the original Star wars Trilogy....

Empire Strikes back was the best of the 2, because it didn't have to set out the storey or wrap it up.....

Probably think ROTK maybe be a bit of a let down, overall.....should be a good battle to start with :-)
