    Upgrade time!

Ok, so I've had my Fuji S5600 for a bit and had a play with it - now I feel ready to make the jump to a dSLR. Question is - which one? I've had a shufty at GDVS' D50, which is certainly very nice, however I prefer the body of the 350D. To compound my woes a friend of a friend can get me a healthy discount off a D70 with the 18-70 lens from Jessops (somewhere around £500 for the body and lens) so I'm throwing myself open to suggestions. I've had a play with all 3 at the weekend and can honestly say I'm torn...

Alternatively is there something else I should be considering? I have a budget of around £750, but would like to get a decent storage card or so, a case and a tripod for that...

play with all 3 see what you are most comfortable with.

The d50 and 350d are similar the d50 usually wins over the 350d in reviews now coz of price diff. That said most say the 350d has better image quality.

The d70 was in competition withthe 20d from canon more mid range user whereas the above 2 are entry level.

I've got a 350d and love it but wouldnt talk you out of any of the cameras as they can all produce great results. Just goto jessops and have a play

You know my thoughts, rip the guys hand off for the D70 at that price

None of them will disappoint though.

I know there is a new Nikon coming out to replace the D70. If I was you I would hold off for a good month and pick a D70 up at a great price

I am in EXACTLY the same position, been umming abd arring over D50 D70 and 350D, I have discounted the 350D cos I did't like the feel of it and the D70 comes with a far superior kit lens to the D50, and not for fortunes more.....at 500 its a bargain!

But Nikon will be releasing news of a new DSLR (10.2Mp) in about 2 weeks times so I'm holding on till then

In any way you go just make sure you have a good play, I was gonna buy a 350D until I held it!!

I also held both the 350D and the D50 and I loved the D50, it feels so much better to hold.I can see a great 20-30% discount on the D70's once the new model comes out.

    *Gulp*

Only hope is that it will be slightly less as D200 can be had for close to that price now, we shall see, otherwise i shall be picking up a bargain D70s - as I am sure that it will be MORE than adequate for my skills!!!!!

image quality from the D70/s is tipitty top, you'll be fine too with the d50 since the innards are very similar appart from a few aspects of in-camera image processing.

Sound advice here - I'll just throw in my own for the "other" stuff, though

Memory - don't skimp here, get decent branded stuff, but also don't go overboard - anything more extravagent than Sandisk Ultra II's is OTT - you'll see no speed gain from Extreme III's or IV's.
Tripod - really don't skimp here. Tripods are like lenses, get a decent one and it'll last you an absolute age. I swear by my tripod and would be frankly lost without it - I would seriously budget £100-£150 for a tripod.
Case - bags are awkward. You could try second guessing what kit you may have in a years time and get a bag to accomodate that, but really you're just best off getting a small bag for your initial kit, and then accepting that if (when!) you start to get more lenses etc.. that you're gonna need a bigger bag.

bags - get a crumpler. so many to choose from you're bound to find one that suits, and they're tough as anything.
