best way to get an upgrade deal??

i'm on orange, and have been for 4 or 5 years in total, i upgrade every year.. been on the current contract for 12 months, so time for an upgrade

has anyone got a guide/ideas for getting the best deal on an upgrade? they'll currently do a n70 for free, with £50 call credit (so essentially -£50) for new customers, however for me it'll cost £240!!!! £290 difference because i'm a valuable customer rather than a new one seems obscene.. i'd take it for free.. but any ideas how to get them down??

Well, I work for an Orange Upgrade call centre... basically it depends on your UIC

PM me i'll get your UIC for you, and that will pretty much tell you what you can and can't get free. The go from UIC 1 to UIC 5, 5 being the best.

Go through to termination and threaten to switch providers unless they give you a good deal. Its sad that all the phone companies are only interested in new customers with little view to keeping their current userbase happy.

I'm with vodafone and I pestered them for a free upgrade. They refused so I cancelled my contract. They rang me 2 or 3 times and persuaded me to stay by offering me a free upgrade, bluetooth headset and a more favourable contract. It's sad that you have to go down this route. If they don't make you any wonderful offers you can still have your number moved to your new provider, it's very straightforward.

Orange suck real bad with upgrades now. I've been with them for 5 years and every year i've been through to disconnections and they noramally upgrade me for free, but this year they wouldnt. So i disconnected.

Eneded up getting the for free on their website, so they just wasted my time!

Ok, here's how it all works. I don't want to go massive detail over it all, if you've half a brain you should be able to decipher it, if you have difficulty i will try to explain.

Note: A UIC (Upgrade Investment Class) is a number every customer is assigned (1 - 5) and is determined by how much you spend with them, the more you, spend the higher it is, the better your upgrade options.

Im with o2 and threatened to quit back in august and got a great deal - 500 anytime any network mins, 400 txts for £15 per month. And a w800i for 25 quid on the day it was released....not bad considering i was spending only 20 -25 quid per month with an inferior tariff beforehand. Just haggle and threaten to quit if you can.

I just keep a PAYG for giving my number out now, As i have the old orange out here PAYG sim i get 5 free text messages every day. Costs 20p a year to run coz with orange they say you have to spend 10p in calls or txt every 6 months.

Then i get a new contract every year, with the best phone going at the time.

That way i dont have to go telling every 1 my new number. as every one can still just ring me PAYG No.

How is UIC determined then? Average monthly spend?

Thats utter boll*cks, sorry but you have no idea....

Wish we went back to where you had to pay for the phone in full see how many of you complained then...if it wasn't for the subsidy that the networks give, you would not have a phone......
