No HDMI sound

Help, bought a yamada dvd mi220x player for its hdmi out put , have set up hdmi in the menu on player and hdset but cant get sound, have tried 2 cables, any one else had this problem, should I just ship it back to e buyer? any suggs apreciated

try setting spdif out to 'wave' or something, rather than 'bitstream'

thanks 5lab, I have tried all audio options in the dvd menu, borrowed a friends Toshiba and it worked perfectly first time, have sent it back to ebuyer for replacement, will post up date on the replacement when I get it.

I'm afraid not, tried two leads, no joy, returned dvd to ebuyer for replacement which still failed to work, borrowed friends Toshiba 350 e which worked perfectly with either of the leads, cheap one and an expensive one, gave up, now route sound thro onkyo amp instead.Cheap is cheap I'm afraid.
