Need to find some stereo speakers for a friend for xmas. Looking for some good all rounders for £100 or less.
What are supposed to be the current best in this price bracket?
Thanks

a few years ago missions were very highly regarded at this price. remember you might want to get shielded drivers if they're going to be used near any magnet-sensitive stuff.
hughlunnon@yahoo.com | I have sigs turned off..
I'd give another vote for the Wharfedales. Although listen to them as they vary so wildly this low in price. I would also maybe look into second hand if your not so bothered about looks (although if its a present then maybe you might be).
G4 PowerMac - Tiger 10.4 - 512MB RAM
MacBook - 2Ghz - 1GB RAM - 120GB HDD
Rotel RC970BX | DBX DriveRack |2x Rotel RB850
B&W DM640i | Velodyne 1512
Thanks for the advice. I have a pair of Mission 701's myself. Got them virtually unused of eBay 3 years ago for the bargain price of £40. He really like them, but they they are stand speakers really and the current equivalents seem to the Wharfdale 9.1's. I'm trying to find a pair for for a £100, even if they were used, but the cheapest i can find is £150.
Another one for the Diamonds here, although I have the JPW Mini Monitors, which I also got from ebay for £20. There have been a few pairs going for £15 or less recently. They work really nicely tucked up high on brackets above my PC, with the NAD 3020 driving them. Terrific, clean tight bass, a very smooth mid and almost elegant top ! Makes most PC speakers sound like "old tin boxes" (© Mike Oldfield 1972 )
They are both highly regarded speakers, but depending on what room your having/how you like your music to sound, then its going to affect your choice. The best would to be to go to a store and listen to them (take your own music - on CD/SACD if possible) and see how they sound. Then if you like them, order a pair
I think the Onkyos would be good, but if you are prepared to spend the full £100 then the Q-Acoustics would probably be better. As I said though, depends on personal taste
Hope this helps,
Dave
I have the warfedale 9.0's they are really nice for the size. Great sound output for the price. But if you're (or he's) a movie buff you might want a sub at some point.
It's going to be for music only i think.
Do you have them on a shelf, stands or wall mounting?
At the moment, i am leaning towards the Q ACOUSTICS 1010's. They were What HiFi best speakers for under £150 in their 2006 awards. Will they be better than the Diamond 9.0's?
But i have seen some Diamond 9.1's on eBay for £120 delivered, but i think £100 really is the limit.
Oh, I actually have the 9.1's, they are on shelves.
Can't comment on the Q-Accoustics. looks like either will be good tbh, what about asthetics?
9.0's for £100: http://www.richersounds.co.uk/showpr...d=WHAR-9.0-CHE
though some people have said Richersounds aren't a great retailer, I haven't had a problem when I've gone in and picked up stuff.
