    RAM question

    Hey,
I have posted this in the hardware forum but it was suggested that I give it a try here too, i'm not spamming

I have two 1GB sticks of Corsair XMS2 RAM that I bought separately, one from the US and one England, both with the model number CM2X1024-6400. They're meant to have timings of 5-5-5-12 and no EPP. However, I just put CPU-Z on my computer and it says that the first stick, the one i bought in the US, has a model number of CM2X1024-6400C4, with timings of 4-4-4-12 and EPP. The English one is normal. What the hell is going on? Is it something wrong with CPU-Z or did i get sent a better piece of RAM by Newegg?

Will this affect the speed of the paired RAM? Just on a side note, I don't think Corsair even sell the C4 version in single 1gig sticks?

Any help would be appreciated, Tim

Yes, that appears normal and is a single 1024mb PC6400C4 DIMM. If you are concerned about running them together, you will likely need to set the timings manually to 5,5,5,12 and the RAM voltage to 2.1v.

Thank you for the reply, it's been bugging me for a while

So you're saying that even though I bought 2 single sticks of CM2X1024-6400, it's normal for one to actually be CM2X1024-6400C4? Is that Corsair making the wrong stick or CPU-Z being wrong?

I misunderstood your original post, sorry. It would appear that the DIMM either:

A: Has the wrong SPD according to the label.
    Or....
    B. Is labled incorrectly and has the correct SPD.

Regardless, it should still perform to expectation. If it is defective in any way, we'll be glad to replace it.

Thank you Yellowbeard... Just one more question , sorry to be annoying...

Is it common for Corsair to label RAM wrong? Cos essentially I ended up with a stick of RAM thats worth a fair bit more than what I actually paid for it? Don't worry about replacing it, it works just fine as far as i can tell! Thanks

No, it is not common for us to do that. We try to be perfect in our labeling so that the customer gets what they pay for.
