    6400C4 Max Overclock

    Hello there,
it's been a while I keep increasing the frequency of my cpu but being on an intel chipset, the ram is getting higher and higher. I have reached it's overclocking potential at 2.1V and wondered if I would void the warranty by increasing to 2.2V. I read everywhere that this is rather safe.
Also, I noticed somewhere that the first modules of 6400C4 had the values of SPD at 1066 at 2.2V.
I know mine are promos ICs and not micron but the heatspreaders should be able to handle that.
How could Corsair know that I did raise the voltage to 2.2 anyway? I don't think there is some kind of dedicated memory in the ram... am i wrong? I guess the way the ICs could burn would tell you that it was overvolted but I have a good airflow in my case so it should be ok no?
    Yellowbeard, any ideas?

AFAIK, only our PC8500 has a rating at 2.2v. Technically 2.2v is over warranty voltage but, we do allow a 5% tolerance due to MOBO and bios variations. So, you "should" be OK with 2.2v. If you can, I'd suggest you check the Vdimm with a meter and not rely on the accuracy of the bios. Promos ICs have onboard voltage regulation on each IC. So, most of the voltage over 2.1v does nothing for speed and is converted to heat.

    Re: 6400C4 Max Overclock

Thanks a lot for that info. It's good to know that Corsair gives a margin.
Anyway I backed off a bit the frequency and am very pleased with 480 at 5-5-5-15 at 2.1V.
100% stable, no errors in memtest so I guess my overclocking adventure stops here with that computer.
Finally I'd like to congratulate you and Corsair for being so active and helpful in that forum. I never thought I would get so much support with all my hardware. Excellent work!

Thank you for the kind words. We are working hard to improve our EU/UK support. This is a great forum and we are happy to help out here.
