    CPU temperature delta load/no load

My cpu temperate jumps from 35c under no load to about 65-70c underload. The increase in temperature is rapid taking only a few seconds. It tends to stop at around 70c. This is a 2500k at stock speed and voltage. I'm using a Scythe ninja. I think it might be the mounting mechanism applying poor /uneven presure to the socket.

I was wondering what sort of temperature changes other people were experiencing ?

Yeah make sure the mounting of the heatsink is correct and secure.

Strange enough, I have just removed a RAM stick as it seemed to increase my graphics card by 20 C.
    The RAM was faulty.

Any software conflicting/malware? This can cause varying temperature changes.

I get around 38-48C at Idle

If it stops rising then you've nothing major to worry about. You're still well below the CPU throttling temperatures. I don't have an i5, but in the ambient temperatures we're experiencing I don't think I'd be at all worried with a stable max temp of 70 (also depends how it's being measured - sensors are generally awful, and software adds even more inaccuracy).

Re: CPU temperature delta load/no load

That idle temp is about right, given the current ambient temps, though saying that, you are running at stock and those idle temps are about the same as what I get with an overclock of 4.3ghz. Even at load I only get 68c max using an eco coolit enclosed system, As you are running at stock I would assume you have a problem.

Have you checked your v-core? I have a v-core of 1.26v, That said you should be at stock volts so that should not be the problem. You could try resetting your TIM and your heatsink. I would look at those 1st, There is no reason that those temps should be that high at stock IMO.

Edit: noticed you have V-core at stock

Re: CPU temperature delta load/no load

Temps with my phenom 400e (a 45w cpu) and a Ninja in a (normally) fanless setup jump about VERY quickly.

I have only one fan in the whole system - case fan mounted just behind the ninja. Passively cooled and doing low load stuff like browsing, watching movies and it'll hover 45 to 50 degrees. Gaming will make it shoot to mid 60s in a few secs. Nowadays doing more than a quick blast gaming and I'll turn the 120mm fan on to very low revs and it'll drop down to 35 degrees in a couple of secs, even while gaming.

Re: CPU temperature delta load/no load

Cooling is incredibly dependent on situation. A max temp of 70c is perfectly acceptable (it's exacly what I used to get with my Core 2 Quad), and suggests there's nothing wrong with your cooler at all.

CPUs generate large amounts of heat but are actually very small, and therefore heat up and cool down very quickly. I've got an old P4 in a mATX system that leaps from 30C to around 65C idle to load in about 3 seconds, but also cools down from 65C to about 35C in a similar time frame.

So I don't think you've got anything to worry about at all, tbh.

Re: CPU temperature delta load/no load

When you say underload, what programs are you using underload? Is it games or stress testing software like IBT or prime95? The reason I ask is if it is when gaming then you will be looking at 10c+ when using prime95 or IBT, which will leave you closer to the TJMax on stock settings!

I get 68c max underload when using IBT/Prime95 and when gaming, normally about 50c, and also bear in mind that mine is clocked @ 4.3ghz with a voltage of 1.26v, even if you factor the diff in coolers it still would not equate to that much diff. My freind has exactly the same rig as me with the exception of ram and a Scythe Mugen 2 and he runs with-in 4c of my system and clocked at 4.3ghz also, though he is stable on slightly less volts.

IMO, even if you are runnig stress testing programs, At stock you should be seeing a lower temp than what you are seeing now. Have a look at my screenshot below to see what my system temps were like at 3.4ghz running prime95.
