    I5 2500k or i5 3570k?

as i am making my new pc build very soon, I can't decide on a CPU, the i5 2500k i can get for £147-£155 ish((depends if the deal still runs when i get it)) , and the 3570k i can get for £167, but i'll only be using them for gaming and light video editing ((rendering for youtube)), but the i5 2500k gets about 6-7 points/fps less in games than the 3570k, but im not sure if its worth the extra £10-£20, sure it runs at a lower temp and wattage, but i dont mind that, and im getting the K versions because in the future i might overclock, but im not too keen on doing it at the moment.

does anyone have any insight as to which would be better for gaming/game recording, and if its worth the extra money for the ivy bridge one... thanks in advance to anyone that offers help :3

    Re: I5 2500k or i5 3570k?

Like I said in the other thread since you are not that keen on overclocking,a Xeon E3-1230 would be a good choice. Since you are gaming and recording video and the same time, the extra threads will prove useful(of course Quick Sync might be useful in the Core i5 CPUs though for encoding).

Otherwise,I would consider getting a Core i5 3450. It looks to be pretty much Core i5 2500K level performance, with a lower TDP and improved Quick Sync. It is also cheaper.

Yeah, if you don't overclock there's no point getting a K model apart from it'll retain value more than non-K chips.

I dont CURRENTLY plan on overclocking, but i might in the future when I feel like i would need to over-clock them, but whats the 3570k's equivalent?, i know the i5 2500 is the i5 2500Ks equivalent, but whats the one for the 3570K?

    The 3570...

Or 3550/3450 if they're easier to get a hold of.

on all the sites i've been on theres not been a 3570, just the 3570K and lesser-numbered models lol.

also the non-K models are only a few £££'s cheaper so i think i'd go for the K one just for the fact they hold their value, so if i upgrade in future then i can sell it on to someone who might want/need it XD

    Re: I5 2500k or i5 3570k?

I would say go for the i5 3570K, its the new Ivy Bridge tech so supports all of the new features (USB 3.0, PCIe 3.0 etc) and should give you a good CPU for years, just remember that you will need a more expensive Z77 motherboard for one of these.

As far as I can see there is no 3570 model, just the 3570K so you might have to look at either the i5 3450 or i5 3550 which are available here - Scan Computers but like you said you might as well go for the K just to future proof yourself in case you decide to overclock in the future as its only a few £££ more.

Decided to go with the 3575k as well due to Scan have some damn nice bundle offers on at the moment.

They're actually backwards compatible with Z68 as far as fitting the chip goes, and the Sandy bridge ones will drop into a Z77 just fine too. Of course you won't get all the features by doing either of these, but you don't strictly *need* a Z77 board, though you'd be silly not to get one with IB as you lose some features.

    Re: I5 2500k or i5 3570k?

I'm thinking of the same thing right now. Not sure really where to go but probably will get ivy even though overclock temps have looked a lot worse in benchmarks. However I will be pairing with a full tower case with plenty of airflow and need that futureproofing with PCI-E 3 support and improved onboard graphics. Also keen to sample the new LucidVirtu that you get on Z77 boards since it could prove to be a big thing.
