IIRC the 'late 2016' referred to early HEDT availability?

TBH,if we have not even seen Bristol Ridge yet, then its not surprising we will have Zen being delayed. That is a 28NM part and AMD seems to have massive issues even getting that out to replace the ancient Kaveri chips. FFS,Intel IGPs now have better media features and are getting closer in performance. They can't blame GF for that one at all.

WTF,is AMD doing?? Their desktop CPUs are ancient now.

AMD keeps doing this with their CPUs,and they give Intel even more chances.

The longer they delay, the shorter the time period Zen will be fighting a 14NM Intel CPU.

    Edit!!

Its like with Bagnaj97 on here who got fed up of waiting and bought a new Core i7 6700 and he wanted Zen too.

FM3 is completely dead then? It doesn't even show in that roadmap for last year

AMD are consolidating the HEDT and APU platforms into a single socket, AM4.

I get that that's the future plan, but it looks like they've already lumped everything into FM2+

Erm... what makes you say that? The only FM2+ processors on those slides are the Kaveri-refresh Godavari that are already available. Bristol Ridge moves over to AM4 this year, with Summit and Raven following next year...

Yep, with no FM3 CPU's on the slide. Under the 2015-16 column there's only the FM2+ APU with no mention of the CPU-only FM3 chips

I'm not sure I follow? FM3 doesn't exist? AM4 covers both CPU and APU, supplanting both the AM3+ and FM2+ lines.

I'm not sure what you think FM3 is supposed to be?

There are Carrizo-based FM2+ CPUs already available under the Athlon X4 brand (iirc the 845 is the Carrizo based one). I suspect there'll be AM4 CPUs based off Bristol Ridge i.e. Excavator quad cores, also branded Athlon. Then Zen will introduce the new line of CPUs also on AM4, probably under the FX brand (although we don't know yet). That's pretty much always been the AMD roadmap for a couple of years now.

I suspect that what you're calling FM3 is what AMD now call AM4 - it's the new unified socket for both APUs and high performance desktop CPUs. Early rumours said the Zen high performance CPUs would launch very late this year, but it now looks more likely that they'll be available some time during the first half of next year instead.

I wonder when would be a good time to end one of Hexus' longest-running threads and started the "AMD - Zen chitchat" thread? Maybe when we get some official details or reviews to discuss?

Why not rename it "AMD Chitchat" instead... lots of graphics stuff came up in here along the way.

As long as we can still post about AMD stuff in other threads. Sweeping it into this one tends to bury it a bit.

    Re: AMD - Piledriver chitchat

Personally I think we need to wait until we get a release date before we hit up a Zen chit-chat thread. I almost wish this thread hadn't branched off from the original Bulldozer chit-chat thread, tbh, as it would then have lasted through the entire lifespan of that architecture!

Interesting that Intel haven't done anything in the meantime that anyone thought worthy of a chit-chat thread. Wonder why that is...?
