    Corsair H100i push/pull question

It comes with a 240mm radiator which can have 2 fans on each side. Is there any particular direction the fans need to be pointing at to work in a push/pull configuration?

    Re: Corsair H100i push/pull question

Apart from the obvious "in the same direction", not really. Where are you mounting it? If it's in the roof I think the generally received wisdom is to have the fans blowing out of the case as an exhaust, if it's on the side, front or back I believe you should generally have the fans drawing air into the case (the air outside should be cooler than the air inside ).

That's how I have my H100i fans set (courtsey of Scan), and seems to work. Rough flow is air in at the front, with exhaust fans top and back blowing out. So a bit like a rack server in that regard.

The downside I can see to mounting at the top is that the fans are using the slightly warmer air inside the PC to blow over the radiator to cool the PC. But it does depend on a) how hot it is inside your PC, and b) whether the extra cooling would help the H100i radiator cool better.

    Re: Corsair H100i push/pull question

I have my H80i Radiator at the back with fans blowing in, and a separate exhaust fan at the top blowing out. That seemed to be the setup favoured in the various reviews I read.

    Re: Corsair H100i push/pull question

My radiator will have 2 fans on each side of it in a push/pull config. I will have the radiator on the top of my case. Take a look at this fan as an example. What I'm asking is (for each of the 4 fans) should I have the side with the wires visible against the radiator or does it not matter?

Why is it called push/pull when both fans are blowing air into the radiator and are not pulling air out?

    Re: Corsair H100i push/pull question

No, push pull means the fan on the inside is pushing air into the radiator, and the one next to the grating is pulling air through the radiator, so they are both moving air in the same direction. There is actually very little difference between push/pull and pull/push, but you do NOT want push/push.

Still confused. One fan is on each side of the radiator. How do I position them so that one is pulling and the other is pushing?

I read this corsair page which describes push/pull. Take a look at this fan as an example. What I'm asking is (for each of the fans attached to the radiator, should I have the side with the wires visible facing the radiator or does it not matter?

    Re: Corsair H100i push/pull question

    Just look on the fan.
All stickers(in the middle of the fan) need to be facing the same way on both sides of the rad.

    Re: Corsair H100i push/pull question

That doesn't really help me because there's stickers on both sides of the fan!?

    Re: Corsair H100i push/pull question

The fans should have arrows moulded into the plastic somewhere around the edge: one arrow pointing around the fan to show the direction of rotation, and one pointing either into or away from the fan to show the direction of airflow. Alternatively, look at the shape of the fins - you can generally work out which way they will push air by their shape. Or, if you're really stuck, plug the fans into your motherboard headers and feel which way the air is blowing.

Then arrange the fans so two of them are on one side of the radiator, blowing air into it, and two are on the other side, blowing air away from it. Usually - and definitely if you're using 4 identical fans - this means all four fans will have the wires on the same side (i.e. two will have them against the radiator, two will have them away form the radiator).

Basically, you're looking for air to be pushed into one side of the radiator, and to be blown away from the other side. It shouldn't be too hard to work out how to do that .... ?

    Re: Corsair H100i push/pull question

That helps thanks. Should I use the corsair software to control the fans as I've heard that it doesn't work properly or can I just use my motherboard software which allows me to control my fan speed?

    Re: Corsair H100i push/pull question

Depends on how good your motherboard's fan control setup is, tbh, and also whether the fans are PWM or not (i.e. 4 pin or 3 pin). If your motherboard offers good fan control on multiple fan headers then I'd use your motherboard. Not sure what the Corsair software is like, although I seem to remember that Hexus reviewed the H100i and found that the software was pretty good... http://hexus.net/tech/reviews/coolin...-series-h100i/

    Re: Corsair H100i push/pull question

Software works absolutely fine for me. I have the push fan on a higher velocity than the pull, as it makes less noise that way!

    Re: Corsair H100i push/pull question

I've found the arrows on the fans. What's the point of the arrow that's pointing to the side? You said there is "one arrow pointing around the fan to show the direction of rotation" but why do I need to know that?

So I'm going to have my radiator on the top of my case with 4 fans attached to the radiator (2 on each side). It only comes with 8 screws to fit the fans the radiator, where do I get another 8 screws from?

Also how do I attach the radiator to the top of my case as there are no screw holes left on the radiator as those are occupied by the screws attaching the fans to the radiator.

I think you screw through the fans and radiator to the top of your case. I.e use very log screws. (Well more like bolts than screws actually).
