Re: CPU Cooling - Which is better?

Any thoughts on using an air or water cooler? About to build a new PC based on an i7-4770K for digital/video editing etc. Won't be overclocking, thinking more about noise.

    Well don't get a K chip then.

The reference cooler is actually pretty quiet at stock loads.

    That's a 3770K, but Haswell shouldn't be much different.

Was only thinking of K chip in case I change my mind re overclocking. Probably go for something just above the Intel reference. Thanks.

If you are not going to overclock, you can't outdo a passive cooler in terms of noise > Xigmatek Thor's Hammer for £16.

But if you would like to be sure for the future, a Thermaltake CLW0215 is a excellent choice, the two fans on lowest settings are virtually inaudible. And just over £35 with delivery from Fierce PC.

Some reviews: CLW0215 review 1 conclusion, CLW0215 review 2 conclusion.

Got the Thos' hammer myself as recommended by you. However, cannot see 1150 listed in the compatible socket types or are these the same as 1155 for fixing coolers?

Yes, coolers compatible with socket 1156 and socket 1155 are also compatible with 1150.

    Is the refurb and good?
such as how long would it last and performance compare new?
I prefer to pay more now and last longer then to change a new one later
I'm keeping my eye on H80i when it goes on sale or sth!

Re: CPU Cooling - Which is better?

See call me silly but I still can't get my head around trusting the Corsair Hydro coolers, I'm sure they're well built and I hear they're very popular but in my head I can't help but think in year 3 or 4 that they'll fail spectacularly and I'll have a drenched useless system!

Re: CPU Cooling - Which is better?

I can hear only whine at the Corsiar AiO coolers right now.

But so far two people with two different platforms have excellent experience with the Thermaltake Performer 2.0.

Or if you have good case cooling, a Thor's Hammer for £16 is a really good deal (add a simple 120mm FAN from eBay from around £2-3 and you can cool a Haswell i5-4670K @ 4.4Ghz - 1.22-1.23V under 60°C no matter what, even like 12h of Prime95). Tested!
