Someone online is offering a delid-relid service for i5-i7 for £14 anyone used them?
Seems to do a lot for the money (i.e. delid, clean, liquid compound then reseal and relid), but i worry i wont get the CPU back or it gets broken, he has 100% reputation. its very tempting.. (But i know i will probably just get mugged)

Good point, imagine arguing with him to say it isnt any better. Also i thought it was possible he would delid it find its one of the 1% super-overclocking bin and swap it for a not so good one lol.Quote:

Honestly I would just get the delid tool then resell when you're finished. Should be a similar cost overall.

Worth it if you don't think you could do it yourself, or are not prepared to risk stuffing it up, as he also says he'll pay the cost of a replacement CPU.
Personally I'd just use someone I trust, like a fellow Hexite with good rep for such work. I've had one such CPU delidding, 3570K I think it was.
I've also known someone else getting theirs done by a 'mate' who saw it on the internet and thought it looked easy... which it was, TBF, but they still took a tiny bevel off one of the components when the cover came away. It was just dumb luck that it didn't do any damage!
That was lucky.. with the delid diemate 2 it was too easy! people online were saying it was fool proof but i still think they're is always a possibility of problems.Quote:

any good ones to recommend? My XPS13 is now out of warranty and the throttling is driving me mad. Been wondering whether to try delidding it alongside cleaning up the excessive TIM that people report is commonplace. that does look a bit like no lid doesn't it. I'd just assumed it was standard arrangement - even reducing the amount of TIM will hopefully help. I'm not sure about his pads onto the chassis idea. The case gets hot enough as it is. I will however hopefully be able to pad the VRMs onto the chassis if those aren't blocked by the CPU heatsink, similar to this guide (which is for the 15", trying to find an equivalent for the 9350)
From my experience of laptops - best to take out the fan assemble fully(disconnect everything and don't let the wires still connect into the motherboard) and blow some air through the fins and the fans to clear the dust out. You might need to also manually clean the fan blades too.Quote:
