The really messed up thing is I stripped down the R9 rig at the weekend and it's sitting in a box, awaiting it's new home; which might not arrive until March!

If I had a suitable case for the R9 to sit in right now, the 9900 chip and ITX board would be up on Ebay this weekend.
Ha, yeah, save up them Amazon voucher codes...

You not got an itx case kicking about? A couple of months wait will be nagging at your head thinking your R9 is just sat there crying in a box.

I've always had the impression you live surrounded by cases stacked up on one another and you have to play a real life Tetris to get out of the room.

I think I have some cases kicking about in the loft but they won't be itx I'm afraid.

Loads of ITX cases, mate. The R9 is in a mATX board. So I've ordered a Sama IM01 which is pretty much a NR200 that can house mATX boards

    Ah right, gotcha.

This morning has been one of those where I dropped my brain down the back of the sofa first thing and I've been playing catch-up all day

    Been a long day already.

    Re: New AMD cpu 2022

I'm wondering if they'll drop a 5600X-3D to counter the new i5's, or if it'll just be a case of them dropping price to be competitive at that end instead..

The only AMD stuff I'm interested in at the mo is the APU stuff so I can get rid of the 3400G that's in my 'server' not that its not cutting it at the mo, but I did stick it in an x570 board for a reason...

I'm guessing they'll continue the 5600x and drop the price to compete in the budget class, once the 3D cache variants launch.

Unless, of course they launch lower end chips with the new range. I can't see it though.

i am pretty sure they said that they will realese only 5800x3D as a part with 3d cache..
I don't thing it makes sense for them to do any other ones.
Price drop on 5600x would probably be very welcomed as its getting a good competiion in 12400f and 12600f although intel motherboards are still to expensive.
12400f and B660 mobo makes sense though

I take it there won't be a 5700x at any point then?

Well the 700 and 800 Ryzen parts have been fairly interchangeable anyway. I assume they gave up trying.

True enough. Presumably they just stuck to the best sellers.

    Re: New AMD cpu 2022

most people bought 3700x instead of 3800x not even talking about "useless" XT version.
Price to performance is what counts most i guess. Everybody was counting on ryzen 5600 non X.. but we will probably never see it.

Yeah, because they performed more or less the same and the 700 was cheaper. So which SKU are they going to drop?

    Re: New AMD cpu 2022

Well 1000 series had 1700x and 1800x but they dropped 800 with 2000 series and decided just go with 2700 and 2700x.
5000 series seems to be the most clear with just 4 cpu (not talking about the apu's) but that might be just because they were so dominant they didn't feel the need to make any other ones

TBF, with the 3700X still on the market and still a reasonable CPU choice, AMD could still make the cheaper sale by choosing to push the 5800X.

But I notice right now there is hardly any difference in price on Amazon between the 3600 and the 3800X, with the 3700X more expensive still. It's all over the place!

I guess tray prices at any given point in time will make sense, but if prices have been up and down then stock will have been bought at different prices. Though Amazon pricing is a mystery...

I recently got one of those. Or rather the Intertech IM-1 Pocket naming of that. Was a bit tricky to get, ordered it from a co.uk address but it was shipped from NL or DE.

Must do a proper review, but I'm using with a full ATX power supply which is one of the reasons I chose the Asus TUF Gaming B500M Plus: it has the x16 PCIe slot one slot down which means that even with a full size PSU I get the full length GPU options which otherwise is only possible with SFX. Main reason I wanted mATX is due to the 4 DIMMs and extra PCIe slots so in the future I could add more M.2 even if I might have to run some at x1.

It's been years since I had a smaller case (I was on my Intel Ivy Bridge 3570K for nearly a decade). My previous case was AeroCool DS-200 which is a Define clone type thing. Got it cheap from Amazon warehouse some time: favourite feature of that was the case fan controller had a 0/1/2/3 so it could turn them off which was nice. Least favourite thing was a lot of the plastic is covered in this slip-proof rubberised finish is I was never able to clean without it becoming sticky. Horrible stuff. Still it was 65 litres.

For the new IM-0, the mechanical 3.5" drives had to go though: in theory there's space at the top for one and one more at the bottom (as you may know this case is almost entirely symmetrical and top and bottom covers can be swapped around).

In practice the bottom one is just far to close the GPU (if you're using SFX and a GPU in the top slot this would be less of an issue), and the top one blocks the best route out for warm air. Back only has space for a 80mm case fan, so after removing the 3.5" drives, I put a 120mm on the top. A second exit fan at the top would need to very thin when using an ATX supply.

SATA cables at the edge of the board (like this Asus I'm using) are very tight so might have to take out the bottom "traverse rail" thing. Also, I have placed some 270° SATA ("left angle") data cables in my ebay basket and might buy those as the 2.5" at the front really don't have much space for the cable. With a spacer it might be possible to place any 2.5" drives at the front in front of the case - doing away with the need for a 270° SATA leads - but I might place a fan there instead.

The new case is definitely louder than my previous 65 litre monster case. Maybe I was being greedy to go for a 22 litre case. A few more litres and things would be a lot less tight.

Yeah, I've seen that case under five (I think) different names now, but it looks like it was manufactured in the same place as the NR200; which is no bad thing.

I have more SFX PSUs than ATX ones so I can save a little space there. Other than the similarity to my NR200, the main reason for choosing it is because I already own a B550 mATX motherboard and replacing it with the equivalent ITX board would cost two to three times the price of the case.
