Re: Difference between LCD TV's and LCD monitors

I've just purchased the Dell 2709WFP A02. I just couldn't bare to get another TN panel and the Dell is really good value for money. After purchasing a Sony 40W4000 last year which has proper blacks and a generally superb picture, I knew that when I built my own PC I couldn't accept anything but a mid to high end panel.

I'm waiting for it to turn up but from what I've read its not a million miles away from what you would expect of any TV except its missing a tuner. The difference between high end TVs and High end monitors are very minimal and the same for lower end TN equipped monitors and TVs. Its just a shame TNs became very popular as its meant the higher end panels havn't been driven down in cost like they could of. I'm just lucky I can afford to spend £400-£500 on a monitor purchase at the moment, I did spend ages looking at TN panels but they just don't compare . That HP is a gem though, I've seen them at work and its the most stunning panel I've ever seen. If you can afford it, get it and if you can't, SAVE

High end TVs play even more games: things like being able to locally vary the backlight level so that they can use the full range of contrast of the LCD regardless of how bright the image is. Plus extra coatings and things on the panel.

IOW, don't thing that a £400 PC LCD panel will match the output of a £1000+ TV for watching video.

(Some of the difference is down to branding and squeezing money out of AV nutters who will overpay for undetectable qualitative differences of course.)

I think you would be suprised, but seeing how theres not really many high quality TVs of the 27-30" variety with Full HD its hard to compare really isn't it?
