Dell IPS 24" good for gaming?

Would anyone know if the Dell P2414H 24" IPS is good for gaming? I'm looking for a 1080p monitor with good colour reproduction but can also handle gaming (from RPS' to FPS'). One review states the input lag is ~8ms which seems fine, but does anyone here have experience of gaming on an IPS monitor?

Lots of us game on Dell IPS monitors For competitive FPS playing I wouldn't, but for RPGs etc. they're great, and for casual FPSs fine.

Using a U2412M (1920x1200) here, fine for 'normal' gaming, the extra height over 1080p can be a big advantage with some genres. I'm considering getting a second one.

Some weeks I game longer than many people work.

Then you end up with 3 U2412M's and it does look good in action, but damn I think I need a GPU upgrade already. Although fortuantly it can be put off for a bit thanks to uni work.

As for the OP when I came to choosing them, there were a few references about how the 8ms is accurate and keeps up with the best monitors once input lag is also considered. Hopefully that wasn't just the effect of others justifying their purchase.

fine IMO. maybe if you're pro gamer it wouldn't but then you'd still be using CRT anyway. So yes, get one. But IMO the U series are worth the extra over the P series.

Thanks for the suggestions. Ended up splashing a little more for the Dell UltraSharp U2414H as it comes with factory calibration and a few extra bells and whistles.

Re: Dell IPS 24" good for gaming?

It's 'only' 1920x1080 but it's a fine choice, especially if you might want to move up to a dual display in the near future.

As a word of warning, screen was supposed to arrive today and in an almost comical sense, the cable I ordered for it arrived, but no monitor.

Parcelforce simply messed up with no good explanation as to why. How can a courrier make such a simple mistake?

Re: Dell IPS 24" good for gaming?

Sadly, even Dell has now abandoned the WUXGA format. It seems the U2412M and the U2413 will be the last ones using the 1920 x 1200 resolution. IMHO, those 120 pixel rows you lose do matter. I'd choose 16:10 over 16:9 any day, but that choice will probably soon be gone...

Re: Dell IPS 24" good for gaming?

Well it finally arrived and it's quite a great monitor. Now, I am going from a cheapo Acer 19" 1440x900 standard monitor to this 24" 1080p IPS, but I would say the response time actually seems better than my last monitor.

As for ghosting etc, well I've been putting it through it's paces in Titanfall and have yet to come across any issues. Great monitor.

Had a Dell Ultrasharp 2407WFP for 8 years before it died on me, replaced it with a U2713HM, then repaired the 24 to have next to the 27" in perm portrait mode. Happy man.

Re: Dell IPS 24" good for gaming?

Nice! Are dell monitors life expectancies decent? My friend has just bough the 2560x1440 dell from scan and he is slightly worried as he's heard some horror stories of them being DOA, dead pixels and dieing only a few months into use!
