OK, rake in the grass here if you are sensitive to lag. You can pretty much ignore the "2ms" or "5ms" figure in a lot of LCD marketing as that is just the pixel changing time, if you are playing twitch games then the signal processing that converts hdmi/Dport/vga into pixels can introduce way more than that, so you get 20ms before the pixel is tagged as needing to change, then it changes in 2ms.

Have a look on www.tftcentral.co.uk as their reviews go to some lengths to measure just how laggy a monitor really is.

Well thx for the input guys, much appreciated.

I'm in two minds, really wish I could just go back to CRT's. But dunno yet. Maybe OLED/IPS 1440p 120hz 1ms holly combo will be created one day.

Tho, as you guys said, your eyes do start to adapt, it, well, it feels weird, not sure I like it, it feels dirty, hehe.

Just seen that several 4k resolution 24 inchers are around as well, eg:
    http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/p...9&sku=860-BBCD

But yes, I'm sure it's only a matter of time before we get 120+hz versions, and later, OLEDs.

If you don't mind the larger size, here's a 1440p 144hz IPS combo:

    Re: Help ! I can't take it anymore !

We installed one of the Dell 4K 24s at work a few months ago, I didn't get much time in front of it but it was very nice to look at. Problem is that windows 7 doesn't scale that well and instantly the user was putting it down to 1080p which made me cry a little.

Yep, Dell do a 25 inch 1440p monitor for around 260 on Amazon. Had it have been out when I was looking, I'd have bought it.

Oh the dell's look promising , nice find. Time to get stuck in on some reviews.

It's that old trade off, density and colour vs total lag. Whilst I definitely miss the nice colour depth and smoothness, I think I would miss the responsiveness more, as there are a few twitch shooters in which I think I would feel it, because of the crazy high mouse sensitivity I usually have. But that's one of those things I guess, kinda like whether your a wasd or arrow keys type of person.

I'm slowly getting used to this spot light of a monitor I now have. Hell least BBC-i Player now doesn't look like everything you watch on it has been shot in a cave But it will be a temp stand in I think, till I find something that wiil do my old CRT justice. Also the nice thing about the new lcd, is it's show me what my total lag threshold is. So least I know what to be looking for in my next one.

With the Acer Predator, I did consider that one, but it's so similar in spec to the current one, i'm not sure it would be wroth it, also 27" would be too much for me, and those extra 3" would probably offset the extra pixel gains.

The Oversampling thing has been tweaked a bit, and the new aoc g-sync monitor can now run a custom rez of 2880x2160 @60Hz. It works a treat in some games, like Dying Light, which has piss poor AA options. And if I run that rez in FC4 or DA:I then it does look absolutely beautiful, and the quality is better than a CRT. But it introduces input lag, not sure why tho. Although I suspect it's probably as a result of running a rez your not meant to. And I think said input lag probably wouldn't be present on displays that have 2160p as their native rez and tight signal processing. Also the custom rez causes the gpu's to rapidly climb up to 80/90c, and effectively turns the system in to a nice little room heater.

So just goes to show I guess, even if I did get a higher pixel density per inch display, there's still the age old issue of having the raw power to run extremely high resolutions like that, which seems to be more necessary on LCD's than on CRT's. Which is why I will never understand why the world gave up on CRT's , they were a prime specimen of form following function.

But one day ! One day, the CRT's will return from their long hibernation.. reborn into their final form... OLED's ! and return to take over the world ! Mwahahahah.

Lol, that is why I was wondering at upgrading my wife's monitor to a 27" 1440 display. I can't see her losing Win 7, so even thought it seems to be almost the same cost now 4K doesn't seem to be an option.

I gather 27" is too big for twitch games, but thankfully she is more into turn based stuff like Civ 5.

Some people may find large monitors counter-productive in gaming but in my experience it's mainly because they don't adjust to sitting/viewing positions.

I've been gaming on a 30" screen since 2007 and would find it hard to go back. Once you get the correct posture everything is better. What I see others do when they sit at my PC (and I remember doing myself when I first got a big screen) is that they get drawn close in and end up staring at 1/4 of the screen intensely....it takes a while but once you learn to sit back the experience is much better and a lot more immersive.

Don't forget a lot of twitch gaming is based on how fast you see something, a bigger screen means everything is larger and easier to see.

It took me a while to get used to my 27 1440p for FPS games, like shaithis says it was because I was sitting just a tad too close so I was not focusing on the whole screen - change of setup made everything better and now love it
