I am looking for a monitor for my system, currently connected to my TV, do I really need to go for a high HZ rate or will 60 do the job?

gaming and media, currently games such as CS, Dota 2, Batman
well if your playing online competitive I'd say go for 144hz without a doubt but if your playing casually 60 will be fine. Going from 60 hz to 120+ is such a nice change it's quite hard to describe.. So yeah it depends but I'm going to standby the 144

so next I suppose is size? 24"? 27" bigger?
144hz 27 inch is rather expensive (1440p) and you don't really want to go 1080p on a 27 inch as the pixel density isn't great.
I'm going to suggest this http://www.amazon.co.uk/LG-24GM77-24...words=lg+144hz
I have had this monitor for a couple weeks and would buy it all over again.

I have been eyeing up http://www.amazon.co.uk/Acer-GN246HL...rds=acer+144hz
The one you suggest looks nice.
The LG has tilt, swivel, pivot and is better in terms of performance and color gamut.

Thanks Obie, will look for a deal somewhere now lol
There is a huge difference between 60hz and 1440hz monitors, you can see it the second you plug it in, everythign is just much smoother, and that shows in games as well, I'd definitely suggest going for a 120 or 144hz monitor. Mine is an asus mg279q and I can only recommend it. Price-wise not too cheap but it is probably the cheapest ips 1440p 144hz monitor around, the acer or other asus models are almost double in price despite the fact that they are using the same panel
