    MMOG boring?

I played a few MMOG like EVE and Planetside a while ago and I have to say they are pretty poor. Eve is considered one of the better ones because you don't have to grind away WoW style in order to level up. However you still have grind away to earn isks (money). So are all MMOG just a boring grind of one sort or another?

Sounds to me like you just don't get on with MMOs... I don't play racing games for the same reason.

Every game where they encourage you to stay for any length of time has to involve a "grind".

There are many reasons for this and the obvious being that in role playing games if you just give everything to everyone then whats the point in playing it for a long time. People must work and earn items.

Blizzard in warcraft does this in a couple of ways. The obvious is the drop rate in instances/mobs in general having a % chance of dropping from the loot tables. So if you need to collect 30 rings and the drop rate isnt 100% then you need to kill quite a few. The other grind is the reputation with factions which whilst taking alot of time still offers everyone the possibility of getting some rewards.

Just to note - in games like warcraft - progression in the game is about 85% gear dependent. So you get stuck on a boss....do the instance again for the next few weeks and you will (or should) make it through.

Sorry for rambling on - in answer to your question - Yes they are all a grind of one sort.....maybe except for second life then you grind in real life to pay for a virtual one.

The problem with MMOs IMO is that any small problem really annoys the hell out of you until you turn into a whining old git like me.

Also the fact you kind of have to play it constantly to get anywhere

I did like EVE's "leveling" system, unfortunately I don't have the time or money for an MMO right now.
