sony fanboys are gunna love this, another big blow in the 360 IMO. for the people who cant be asked to click on the link, the delay is because gta4 CANT fit on a regular dvd9 disk so they have to find other means of putting it on the dvd9 disk for the 360!
take two cannto release the game on the ps3 yet (yes their version is finished) because they have an agreement with MS..
Whoever thinks size doesnt matter, well think again lads. Also pgr4 has a similar problem has they cant put both day/night textures on a single dvd9 disk
And how much of the disc is FMV that could of easily been done with the in-game engine?
Just a thought, based on what they've done for every other GTA.
Texture sizes - aren't both consoles quite limited as compared to the PC in terms of video memory available?
PGR4 (http://www.bizarrecreations.com/arti...rticle_id=5257)
"DVD size is absolutely not a factor that we consider when designing our games... and PGR4 is no exception" Although it does seem you're right that they couldn't provide complete duplicate texture sets for every condition.
Honestly, how many PC games need more than a single DVD? I still don't think optical disc size is really that important yet - but I do think the PS3 having a higher capacity format makes it more future proof (and allows them to dump endless amount of FMV into every game [to the point of overkill]). Will crysis be crippled by the lack of blu-ray for example? Will it ship on more than one disc? Remember that's it's probably _the_ most detailed/complex game we'll see this year on any format..
To be honest, when you look at every other post on their website they are totally anit-Microsoft.Originally Posted by UK RebellionI haven't read about this problem anywhere else and the whole PGR4 thing was a hoax anywayOriginally Posted by UK Rebellion
Waiting on Microsoft to provide them with a compression system to allow them to fit everything on.. Erk, I wouldn't like to be in their shoes..
I guess if things get further delayed then they'd have to look at cutting stuff out and providing it as a downloadable "extra"
Maybe next time they'll think twice about such harsh tie-ups..

well i hope your right odc but considering the size that gta4 games will be and the amount of textures it has im sure it will JUST about fit in a dvd9 if not exceed it? doesnt the resolutions of 1080p take into account when making these games? in other words is higher res = bigger file size on images?
the bluray that sony put on the ps3 doesnt seem too over the top innit
Err, really? Which of course explains that all the demos and previews given to the media have been on the 360 version, nothing has been seen of the PS3 version, and Rockstar themselves say the PS3 version is about five weeks behind the 360 version. Whether this has anything to do with the delay is unknown, and the official press release about the delay cites the differences between the platforms, but the PS3 version is almost certainly not "finished". :-/
I would not believe anything on the UK rebellion site, just because of their biased agenda. The reason may well be true but it would be nice to hear it from a valid source.
Remember peeps, its just like GCSE history: you must judge your source carefully!
Not around too often!
i hate gcse history

Well I'll believe the words of Rockstar themselves, cheers.

Hmmmm. I honestly don't think that texture size is an issue for the 360 and obviously not the PS3 because when you look at a game like Crysis, as far as I know it only uses one DVD and that has far better texture quality than GTA.
The only reason that I heard it being delayed for was "certain elements of development proved to be more time-intensive than expected".
