It has all the key elements that made Diablo II great. The demo was utterly disapointing, only because it sort of ditches you when you're just getting into it. But it'll be a great game and i can't wait to play it online.

Thanks for that acrobat. Sounds to me just like Guild Wars plus an FPS slant. Probably isn't the game for me.

(PS if you could break up some of your longer paragraphs, and put a blank line inbetween paragraphs, it might be a bit easier to read too).

No probs. I'll do that with the paragraphs now too.

p.s. I never played Guild Wars but from what I know about it... it does sound VERY similar. Whether it is or not, I don't know. I'd be wary of writing this off as being the same kinda thing though, with just an FPS slant. Because that FPS slant alone, can actually make it seem like a very different experience. I should have said this in my review thing, but, if it wasn't for the FPS aspect, I probably wouldn't have even lasted 10 minutes in this game. Its not my kind of game at all.... I dont like the young people who play this kind of game, use leet speak, only want to level up so they r teh ubar and can grief ppl lolololzors, I hate mini quests, I'm not a big sci fi fan, I hate my characters emo hair, the storyline didn't draw me in, etc..etc.. So the FPS element was actually significant enough to make me ignore all that and yet still get some enjoyment out of the game And there are probably a few other things that make this game quite special. The PVP element is probably one of them. And there are probably other key things that I can't say due to being a relative newbie to the game. I can think of a couple of other things though, like it being well polished. There is a memory leak but its not severe, and I bet they fix it soon. There was the odd other bug here and there, but really, for a game this big and online, to not have loads of bugs in the Beta... is actually quite impressive. But even besides the bugs, it just looks and feels polished. Really nice graphics and sound and just all feels really solid. Technically, I am super impressed with it.

The future of online gaming looks bloomin awesome to me. This may not be my number 1 game, but it totally gives me a glimpse of what is possible technically nowdays, and its impressive stuff.

I am correct in understanding that you can't actually get the device to Lann in Covent Garden Station, right?

Re: Hellgate London goes gold, demo this week

I'm not sure, I haven't seen the demo at all. I was just playing (in the beta) one day and I had just reached about level 8 and I was only just about starting to get hooked. And then I saw in chat, people where talking about how the demo sucked and it only allowed the first 4 levels or something... and I just remember thinking that it was a really silly thing to do - because it was only about level 7 odd that I started getting into it.

My chars are at lvl 5. I think they mean levels as in areas. You only get 4 areas.

Re: Hellgate London goes gold, demo this week

    Ahh yeah. Not very good.

I just remembered something else cool about this game. My class is a Summoner which is like a Mage or Necromancer or whatever. But unlike in Everquest and Vanguard and games like that, where I just had a single pet or a few pets.. in this game, I've got an entire little army of pets, and I chose them all.

So in the first several levels, I just chose to have 4 little fire elementals which work as a nice little force. But then around level 10 or so, I added a fifth pet, which is like a bigger elemental that does different types of damage. And then in the last few levels, I added a sixth pet... and this one is a healer, which keeps the other pets healed, and even heals me too. You can have many more too, but even just having six so far is great. I don't think I've played anything before that allows that many pets for a single character, and the fact that you can have pets that do different things that complement each other too, I think is really great.

I'm gunna play it to death in the last few days of beta, so I can get some more skills and see what they are like. I haven't had a really good look at the skill tree, but I did notice one of the skills is to lifetap the health from nearby enemies, which I think will make me especially uber. I'm going to miss playing this game when the beta ends soon. I still need to decide whether to buy it or not.

Re: Hellgate London goes gold, demo this week

The game will be better with party-oriented build. You can make the blademaster into a tank, and obviously have the summoner with healing pets which will keep him alive, along with marksmen to kill off enemies. Thats what i'm looking forward to.

Also, the only other game i can think of that allows more than 1/2 pets is Diablo 2... Which was obviously created by the same people.

Re: Hellgate London goes gold, demo this week

I had a look at the skill tree, to see whats on offer in the later levels, and its not that great really. Its basically just pets galore I forgot to mention I've got an area affect fear spell which is really useful. So thats fear, lifetap, health from corpses, pets, and pets that heal, but that seems to be about it. I think there might be a few other spells/skills, but as a Summoner, its mostly just different types of pets.

So thats a bit disappointing to me, cause its no mage. I've also finally got worn down by the endless little quests. I think I reached about level 16 or something today, and I was waiting to see how the game progresses. But it just kind of continues, forever.. The same little tasks from the low levels just carry on and on. Some people are going to love it, and I see lots of people talking about how addicted they are in chat. But I'm pretty positive I'm not going to buy it now. I'm going to wait and see what happens with AoC, Warhammer and POTBS for my online action.

D'you know what the graphics reminded me of?

Unreal 2. Seriously. The character models, esp the humans in armour and those with little blue eyepieces, etc, made me think "Oooooh, unreal 2".

That was on high graphs, medium shadows. Ran v nicely on 7800gt. May have to up the settings.

The tutorial was really, really fvcking irritating with text all over the screen. Yes, I know I can skip it, but there you go.

agree with the annoying tutorial. The text freezes when you open inv, making it really annoying.

But disagree with the unreal 2 thing, eh?

Played it again last night... it's growing on me. The Bag o' Bones was a nasty surprise

Yes but it's not in the 'hellgate london thread' where the score belongs, the thing is the reviewer actually enjoyed all the sub systems and tnikering with stats but the combat and enemy a.i is terrible.
