XBox Live Silver members - thou shalt now wait...

Saw this on that Major Nelson blokes blog. Silver XBlox live members have to wait a week before being able to download certain content -> FYI: Free Xbox Live Marketplace content and Silver accounts - Xbox Live's Major Nelson

I wont pay for gold as it seems to be populated with the lowest form of detritus known to mankind so I'm not that bothered but it seems others are upset. Now, if they prevented users from downloading patches for games they paid for then that would be a different matter.

Hasn't it always been this way, XBL Gold users always have gotten stuff like trailers before silver members

I pay for my service so I don't want to freeloaders filchin off my server slots before I get to download it

As I'm not drawn towards the online play, I don't mind having to wait a week for trailers, most of them don't matter to me anyways or I can watch them online with my PC/Xbox1. It's when silver members no longer are allowed access to certain things or things cost more for silver members then you'll start to worry.

It has, the new content never appeared on the Marketplace for Silver users until it was available to them. Now it appears and they get the message if they try to download it.

... as long as patches are made available then I have no problem. I have zero interest in trailers, demo's or anything like that so that is not a concern. It's not about the money, I still consider XBL to offer low value for all.
