    Razer DeathAdder question

    Hiya,

Basically, I want to use my logitech MX1000 wireless mouse for every day usage, but it's a bit rubbish for gaming as it only updates its position at 85Hz, which is pretty jerky for FPS gaming - especially sniping. I want to get a Razer DeathAdder for gaming, but does anyone know how well this will work alongside? Will the drivers work separately? Or do they interfere? Or is the solution just to disconnect the MX1000 whilst using the DeathAdder?

Or does anyone have any better suggestions?

    Thanks in advance,

    Fraz.

    Re: Razer DeathAdder question

You'll have to unplug it - I have (well had) a similar setup.

If you don't both mice will be able to take control of the mouse. This causes an issue as one in sending data at one rate, with the other mouse differing.
I could clearly tell the difference after unplugging the other mouse and reattaching the Razor. It appeared the Razor would default to the lower rate of the other mouse (well, it's probably Windows in fairness)

couldn't you just switch the mx1000 off on the switch while using the DA?

    Re: Razer DeathAdder question

Ok fair enough. I'll just unplug the other mouse depending on which mouse I want to use.

So Agent - did your two mouse drivers sit ok together? I know the DeathAdder comes with some fairly srubbishrubbishrubbishrubbishy software from the screenshots I've seen - do you think having both the Logitech setpoint driver and the deathadder driver intalled will be ok?

Yup, it's just another HID device. You can plug multiple mice and keyboards in no problem

The Razor doesn't use a separate special driver as it's all done on the mouses processor + firmware. Hence the reason you can plug the mouse into an entirely different machine, yet the speed / acceleration and all the settings work will stay the same

I had a MX518 (Logitech too) and the DA with no issues at all (although I am currently using a Habu with no issues either)

just while the thread's open (stops me making a new thread)
    how good is the Deathadder?
i'm using some £12 wireless jobby atm, but i've never really used a properly good mouse, so i'm just wondering how good these expensive mouses are.

would it be worth forking out £50 on a good mouse for games and just everyday PC use.

Fraz - the software works fine, even with 2 mice plugged in (just tested it for you).

I preferred the Habu, but they are both excellent mice.
The DA has a "piano black finish" on it by the side buttons. This meant it gets very slippery, which I found annoying.

    Awesome. You are most kind.

So are the Habu and DeathAdder bascially equivalent in most ways, but the Habu has a better feel to it?

Depends really. Mouse technology seems to go 2 steps forward and 2 steps backward to me in some ways.

My new wireless MX1000 is really comfortable and is great for every day use, but if you look at the way the pointer moves about it's really jerky. Beyond a certain speed of motion the pointer moves on the screen in what I can only describe as a lumpy/jumpy motion - not at all smooth. Maybe there is something wrong with it, I dunno. It works on literally every surface imaginable, which is great, but its a massive step backwards in terms of smoothness over my much older Logitech wireless mouse that used Logitech's own proprietary wireless linkup rather than Bluetooth.

In games this lumpy motion has been really annoying me - it actually causes the game to look like the graphics card is struggling to produce a good framerate, and it's basically impossible to do FPS sniping. So... just to try things out I switched to my very old wired Mircrosoft Intellimouse Optical, and it's sooo much smoother, even though it's only running at 40Hz high refresh rate.

You can test the polling frequency of your mouse using this very handy app:

    http://files.filefront.com/dx+mouse+.../fileinfo.html

My MX1000 has a peak update frequency of 85Hz, and my Microsoft wired mouse is 125Hz. Apparently, to stick to some bluetooth standard, all bluetooth mice have an 85Hz update frequency. The extra 40Hz has really made a big difference - I've gone from not being able to snipe at all to being half decent. Also, with the DeathAdder, I really like the idea of being able to change the sensitivity on the fly - if you're being a sniper you want the pointer to move quite slowly, but if you're running around like a loon, it's nice to have a very quick moving mouse.
