Re: News - Study says Wii fit may not help families get fit

There was an article on the BBC a while ago which was "research" concluding in a very similar fashion although i'm not sure which is worse, this or paying researchers $50 million to take 3 years to discover nothing much more than "a digital divide between those who have access to the web and those who do not". Really, is that what happens when you don't use something, you lose out? Shock horror. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7740895.stm

Getting sick of this pointless crap that they throw money at constantly under the guise of research when anyone with an ounce of bloody common sense could tell them the same thing without so much as 3 seconds of thinking.

Well, it sure won't help people get some sunlight either. I could have said the same thing because it's so obvious. Not Wii Fit. It's Wii Fat.

I've been saying the same for ages, it's just a simple case of if you're not exerting yourself you're doing it wrong really. It's exercise for people too lazy to do exercise, e.g. a game that looks like exercise without actually having you to do that nasty effort thing.

    complete rubbish.
you can play wii tennis by sitting down and flexing your wrist, you can play mario Kart without hardly moving the wheel, you can play zelda sat in bed . . . . . .but if thats your frame of mind when getting a wii: get an xbox, your obviously too fat and lazy to utilize a wii for how it was designed.

Wii fit is REALLY good and serves its purpose as designed - but if its bought and used in the examples above, then congratulations: you've just wasted 80 quid. used properly parallel with a healthy diet serves its purpose as exercise and fits people who want to be entertained while exercising, dont have the the funds to join a gym or doesnt want to run the streets.

Now I agree partly that some of the mini games don't IMO provide enough exertion, but have you attempted to do al the yoga poses? I'm a relatively fit person, I play a number of sports and play in a football league, but even I can see the value of the stretches/poses that are there. If I actually went through and did them, I'm sure that it would help my flexibility.

But even though you may not deem some of the games to be 'proper' exercise, there are many factors to do with time, travelling, cost etc and to be honest at the very least, it can help someone to get into a routine of exercise (however strenuous or not) and discipline - which surely even you cant deny would be an advantage?

Re: News - Study says Wii fit may not help families get fit

The main issue I had with the Wii Fit is that once you've unlocked all of the exercises, it takes bloody ages to do. When there's two of you doing the routines, it can be 2 hours before you get your dinner. And the little piggy bank thing makes you feel guilty if you don't do all of the exercises...
That's my excuse for ours being in the corner for the last six months, and I'm sticking to it...
