I manage to play CS well at 1280x960... I did try at 800x600 for a while but it was just so big and crap looking basically, i stuck 4xAA and 8xAF on and it still didn't look as good as it does at high res. Although I have to say sniping is like falling off a log at low res.

One thing that i have found improved me dramatically was using high rates, I was using relatively low rates before (rate of 7500 and cmdrate of 25 and updaterate of 30, I left my rate at 7500 but put the other two upto 60 and now my bullets actually register!!

(I am on 64k ISDN however so I only have about 8k/s of bandwidth to play with so 60 each is fine), my ping goes up a bit but I can handle a ping of 90 over a ping of 70...

i play at 1152x864, anything lower is just ugly and unplayable, u can't see anything tbh!

Why can't i play half life in 1280x1024
I don't like 1280x960 anymore, especially since my TFTs native res is 1280x1024
I've tried editing registry and all sorts but can't get the bloomin' thing working :/

Yeah don't think you can do that m8. This will be fixed in hl2 though

Used to play in 1024x768 and was very good in it, but i then moved to 800x600 and ive improved alot. Most players like using lower resolutions as they find it easier to play with.

What isp do you use... is ISDN really that expensive? ive heard the myths but i cant get BB in my area and have been interested in this for some time...

In some cases its more exspensive than adsl, as a mate of mine has it and pays £40-50 a month and i only pay £30 for adsl.

i pay £26 per month for isdn line, then £15 p/m for the freeserve anytime pacakge.

so £41 a month ,pings are about 35 - 50 (ingame) so just behind adsl pings, but d/l rate is 8kb/s max, usually around 7.5kb/s ish

Freeserve Anytime, they allow 64k access. ISDN is stupidly expensive for what it is, the ISP (Freeserve) is about £13.99 a month, then add on £28.99 ish for the ISDN line per month (also a setup fee of about £100, best I can get here i'm afraid

i used 1024x768 and switched down to 800x600 and found i got a lot more kills....for long range rifling u cant beat 1024x768 but for everything else including sniping, 800x600 = nice

i have a 19" sony monitor too

lol hrrm tips for clan matches. ALWAYS USE TACTICS!!!!!! if u just run abt anywher then ur gonna get owned tbh. also remember to spread out ur team and camp sometimes, but rush others. u gotta alternate tactics or they'll get used to it and attack u usin the best way. also learn from wat the other team do, if it works for them most likely it'll work for u coz they wont expect u to steal their tactics. and 1 more thing- USE UR EARS! the amount of ppl that get killed coz they dont use their ears amaze me. u can track someone through a wall if u listen well enuff, and anticipate when they come round a corner. anyway iv said too much >.< gl and hf!

I used to use 1600*1200 and I prefer it a LOT over the others, but in windows its slightly more blurry so I use 1280*960 for that. However CS doesnt like being alt-tabbed when played in higher than desktop res.. so I have to use 1280*960...

I play just as good, maybe better in 1600.
