    Taking Xbox apart?

I have a strange problem with my Xbox.
It seems to power up ok, but nothing displays on screen and the LED shows Green (flashes red with faults apparently).

Also, the CD tray does not eject, so hence I was gonna take it apart and have a look.

I'm guessing it "should" void the warranty, but is there a way to take it apart without showing it's been taken apart?

Dont take it apart, if you do there is no way to keep your warranty as the two screws in the middle are under the metal tags and you need to puncture the "void if removed" tags. You can buy kits to repair these tags but I think MS will see through that, just call it in as a warranty case as there are some dodgy drives that went out with them.

Don't take it apart - please, it is dead - I will lend you mine if you want to look inside.

The likelyhood that you'll be able to fix whatever has broken is slim to none. Ok if it's a dodgy DVD drive that can be changed... but that'll cost you money

nope the ones with the two round holes either side of the centre are samsungs and they are the best ones to have as they can read some cd-r's, so if you are modded you really want Samsung drive. The Thompson is the worst of the drives they have and they can have issues with reading disks.

The link from Buff explains it actually
    http://www.freewebs.com/xboxdrives/

I modded mine and luckily have a Samsung drive which allows me to play my mp3 cd's etc using the Xbox media player.

If it's still under warranty, why not make a claim??

    Well I called m'soft....

It is technically out of warranty as it was bought over a year ago......

but.... it's never been registered as the guy on the phone told me.

So I registered it.... July last year, so what a surprise, it's still in warranty

UPS dropped of the label today, and will collect it as soon as I arrange it.

So hopefully it will be all fixed very soon
