Fancy a game of minesweeper flags on msn?
Tough on mirrors, tough on the causes of mirrors.
dunno whats the gameplay like and most importantly will it work on a 9800pro
Gameplay is good. It works great on the Nvidia Quadra 4 900 XGl i have here, but that used to cost over 900 quid a year and a half ago, so not sure if 9800pro will be sufficient. Can always try. Maybe there are tweaks.

ill drop the res to 600x40016bit
I had the same thoughts as Nomadd when I first saw the screen shots and videos actually, they were all the same, all dark, very low poly..
It seems like ID has done the classic mistake of getting something new and using it over and over, and over.... until it ruins the effect, that's seriously disappointing considering the calibre that we *know* ID has, I'll reserve final judgment for myself until I can get a copy (Or Deck's review gets posted ), but it's certainly not looking good considering all the rumblings of discontent that I keep reading from various places.
What's *really* weird is how polar the views are from the "reviews" from gaming sites and the experiences from some of the gaming community, do these places not care about their credibility?

Thats very true TiG, HL was one of the greatest games out there, personally it used to scare the living daylights out of meOriginally Posted by TiG
Games should be fun, not uber realistic. I mean, games like Day Of Defeat, IMHO one of the best WWII shooters around. So what the graphics arn't great, I find it a very good game to play, its not wrecked by stupid bots or anything, its just about fine. Its realistic, but not overly, I mean how many times have you been able to kill someone with a Spade in an uber realistic game? Just goes to show that a game that costs £30-£40 (e.g. Battlefield) is far more buggy than a mod that is free.
Hmm, I don't get in with all the hype, so that might be why i've found it more enjoyable then some. I went out and got a copy of Freespace 2, and I saw Doom 3 for sale, so I snapped it up. I didn't have any high expectations for it, and so far I have found it very good, not great certainly, but certainly good. The screenshots don't do the so called 'low-poly' models justice, you just watch them in action. I have never played a game like this before, a game that makes you apprehensive of walking into every room. I love the way you can't hold the torch at the same time as a weapon. This isn't some kind of technical mistake that the developers made that some people seem to claim it is, it really ups the ante.
But then again, I thought Deus Ex 2 was good (not great, certainly) so don't listen to me
And flight sims
To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.
What I cannot understand is why the hell you need like a X800 or 6800 card for a game that in reality on uses 20% of your screen (the section where the flashlight is on) with the rest of the screen dark as hell and totally unseeable.
I've seen doom3 in action yesterday @ work - its nothing special, a bit too dark in places, so dark I expect if you stook stevie wonder in front of a PC he'd probably get 1/2 way through it and kill a few monsters in the process.
Only review I've read, from a site I trust so far, is GameSpot, which gave it a not-so-amazing 8.5
I think thats fair, maybe a little high, but at least they didn't proclaim this rather average, nice looking FPS as 'teh gratestest game evor!!11!!' without thinking.
They summed it up nicely when they said 'It hasn't reinvented the wheel, but its a nice looking wheel'.
Which is a nice way of saying - nice graphics, where's the game play? Seems Id thought they could get away with the exact same Doom game play, all these years later, and it really doesn't wash anymore.
How many levels of dark, dark, dark tunnels can you walk through, mindlessly killing the same basic monsters, before you get bored, and realise that FarCry looks just as good (better in the more impressive outside levels), has far better game play, just as much suspense (Rebellion anyone?), and is, overall a better game.
Gamespot agreed, giving FarCry a 9.2 Editiors Choice, and Doom III an 8.5.
If you've got a decent gaming rig, and can only afford one of these games, please, ignore the hype, and get FarCry. It is a better game, and once the novelty of Doom III wears off, you'll be so bored, you'd kill for some FarCry goodness.
EDIT - Ign.com gave it an 8.9 (They also gave FarCry a 9.2, continuing the trend of respected game sites considering FarCry the better game)
Again, thats not the score a game with this sort of hype should be getting, considering most of that will be because the graphics, when you can see any of them, are top notch.
Now, Valve, you've got the chance to win this battle by a mile, as long as you don't arse up Half Life II in the same way. Don't let me down lads...

I played the quake demos and that was enough for me. Looks like I will be playing the doom 3 demo soon. Should be fun. Doubt I will buy the full game although I do pick up alot of titles on budget 12 months after the hype.
got any links of the new hl2 screenies?
thanks alot guys
agreed vaul, farcry was far superior imo :> also got progressivly harder, d2 was more a case of seen one, seen them all, and by the time youve got your plasma rifle nothing can stop you :|
er, if your northbridge fan is humming loudly, disconnect it. _dont_ kick the side of the case, it _will_ break it.

I'm trying desperately not to read this thread.... And I'm afraid that with most new games I've bought recently - that I'll be grossly underwhelmed!
The only games that I've bought recently and enjoyed are GTA3, GTA3 VC, UT2004 and FarCry. That's out of about 20 games! That's a particularly sucky average, and really will be totally unimpressed if Doom3 and HL2 suck also. If that happens - sod it. I'm going back to solitaire. At least there will be some variety, and I won't have to worry about constantly upgrading my rig. Whooo hoo - 400fps at 1280x1024, FSAA the works on the one game that I know isn't going to disappoint!
Only games I've played recently that were any cop, have been FarCry, Commandos 3: Destination Berlin, and C&C Generals + Add On Pack.
Oh, and Medal Of Honour.
