Soliders - Heroes of World War II

Well if you like a balance of RTS and action combat this game if so for you, the co-op mode is stunning played last night with Vimeous. Easy levels have still taken us numerous attempts to beat.

The destructable scenary, damage models and the ability to "Direct Control" the tank, with arrow keys, mouse for turret pointers etc is superb

Tig - did you say tanks ?

    <drool>

Whats the realism like ? Do you get to drive Panzers ? Any ballistics/gunnery/armour modelling going on there ?

Skii, its stunning, tiger's turrets move SOOOO slowly, just like historically they did, Ballistics are ACE, the early panthers still got the manifold problem where you hit them just right and the shell forces through the top manifold straight into the crew.

You can repair tanks which is the only thing that is slightly dodgy in terms of realism, best of all tho is its hard. which makes the whole thing satisfying... The german campaign is recreating villers-bocage and the defence/recapture of it by a very small number of tigers against the allied 4th division.

It is sooo true that it takes 4 shermans to take a tiger..... I'm not sure i dare try the allied campaign as if i come across tigers i KNOW that its going to take a hell of a lot to get on his rear armour...

Shermans also BURN sooo bad when hit, i keep frying the enemy crews

Night time attack on villers bocage is ace..

Explosions are cool - Coop mode is already in the game and they are going to release Player VS Player as a freebee in a month or so... Vimeous and I played a bit of player vs player with our tanks in direct control mode, YELLOW DOT shows where your turret is aiming, and FIRE

its intense driving the tank around trying to get a shot off, then getting hit in the tracks, and getting stopped dead.....

    Ok

    Now I'm excited.

    Officially

I guess the Tank v tank thing has pretty much died in modern PC gaming, I guess anything that can pay any homage at all to this arena is going to catch my attention big-time. Its true what you say about Shermans, often over-romantisised they were severely undergunned against the late war Panzers, nicknamed 'Tommy-Cookers' due to their propensity to explode in flames after a direct-hit, thankfully we Brits stuck a 17-pounder gun in the turret and could finally take the Tigers on at a respecteable range.

Looks like I'm off to GAME at lunchtime

Skii - let me know if you want to play co-op at any time, as the sheer intensity of the game is soo well shared with more than one person

BTW i'd recommend a GIG of memory... Skeps, there isn't any service that recognises this game online let, supposed to be a new patch that will add All seeing eye support come end of september...

Well that was short, no games up on the net. Surprising as I think quite a lot of people bought this game.

LOL, thats because it doesn't work yet matey... to play against people you need to send them your IP address. There isn't anything that detects games yet, got to wait for MP 1.3 patch to come out.

Co-op is awesome i've tried it on a Lan, to play on internet you need to open a fair few ports tho, and know someone who is playing at the same time.

I shall be playing co-ops much more when the patch comes out and it integrates with ASE.
