GTA San Andreas confirmed for PC in 2005

    [10/09/04 14:17]
Plus! PS2 version of the game delayed by a week and GTA Advance location revealed

Rockstar have today confirmed that a PC version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas will be released between May and July 2005. No further details on the game have been announced although it's expected that it will be a straight port of the PS2 version.

While the PC incarnation of GTA 3 was very unstable, the port of Vice City was much improved, with far better visuals and a much higher resolution, so we have high hopes for the PC version of San Andreas.

In other San Andreas news, the release of the PS2 version has been delayed - but, fortunately, it's only been put back by a week. The game, which was due to be released for PS2 on 22 October, will now instead hit shelves on 29 October in the UK and 26 October in the US.

"The title's launch date was moved to allow additional time for final testing of the game, which exceeds the size, depth and scope of traditional videogames," reads a statement from Rockstar.

Although it's not currently thought that the game will suffer from further slippage, it's worth nothing that nobody outside of Rockstar has actually played the game yet. And with Rockstar maintaining that they don't reveal how close to completion their games are, there's no way of knowing how finished (or not) San Andreas is at present.

As for the top-down GBA version of Grand Theft Auto, which was also due to be released on 22 October, this is now scheduled for "late October" so we wouldn't be surprised for that to also be put back to 29 October to coincide with San Andreas.

The game will be set in Liberty City, with an area twice the size of GTA 3 to explore, and will feature three unlockable areas: Portland, Staunton Island and Shoreside Vale. Expect loads more on both San Andreas and GTA Advance in the coming weeks.
To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.

Sometime think that there is something wrong with me, apart from the obvious physical issues I have <smile> I hate GTA games in all their different guises, this one included. Oh well, perhaps one day it will all become clear and I can join in too....

I can't wait. I'm told it's an even better port to PC than vice city was, with much better gfx, draw distance and a few new features such as being able to play your own MP3's in the vehicles and making your own radio station. Sounds like a nice touch

Nice that sounds great i cant wait

To be honest i havent completed GTA3 or vice city or even GTA 1&2 to be honest but i love those games, and when i get bored i just go on a rampage!

It would be nice if they had patches for the older GTA titles to increase draw distance and gfx tho Dont get me wrong they are still really good games.

GTA 3 is still the best. SA just gets boring after the inital "Oh my god this is so lush" effect.

You'll notice not many people talk about it now, just 6 months later, unlike GTA3 and Vice city which easily kept you going over a year.

I blame the annoying character "babysitting" system, i just want to mess around but i get bugged every five minutes by stats loss and driving skills nonsense. I mean, if i want to play a character babysitting game i'll get an RPG, this is an action adventure but you cant spend 20 minutes without being bugged.

I really love GTA3 and Vice City, they have totally driven up the standard for games i spend my time with. But San Andreas had 2 or 3 serious faults, and graphics is not one of them.

I think PC people will be fortunate in that they can modify the game to disable such features.

The fact that they disabled driving with the pressure sensitive D-pad on PS2 for NO REASON was were i drew the line, havent touched since about a week after release. Very stupid and unprofessional decision.
