*Sorry* Very Quick HL2 saves Question

    Right,

First of all, sorry for heaping ANOTHER HL2 question into the forum. Well, I just completed it last night and wanted to ask about something regarding the saved games.

I hadnt really noticed before as I was jsut loading up from my last auto/quick save, but I've only ever got 4 saved games, 2 auto and 2 quick. I remember at the start of playing I noticed that there were only 2 autosaves, so, just after the "loading" prompt in the game, I quicksaved. The point is that its nice, once completed, to go back to fave bits in a game to play or show people cool things (crane!!).

However, I just had a look at my saved games list and there are also only 2 quicksaves, which is a bit rubbish really. What are other peoples experiences with this? Or is it just me? Any remedies?

    Thanks in advance

    JOP

Its the same on Doom 3, except that Doom 3 has only 1 quicksave so everytime you use it the previous one is overwritten. It has its main level saves so you have to do an entire section again to show a decent bit to friends etc

    Cheers Ferral,

looks like my mate was lying then, he said that he had a long list of autosaves! I kinda agree with having only the one or two quicksaves, but it couldnt have been hard to implement a multiple autosave structure.

Hang on, just thought, maybe if i actually use the save option from the main menu, then i can have multiple saves. Gonna try it now!

That will probably work, that was the way round it in Doom 3 as it does the autosave and quicksave but you do get the option to press esc and save it that way and that save is not wiped at all. Just takes a bit longer to do thats all.

Yep, it works! Hurrah. now I have an excuse to play through it all again! I know that you can map buttons to console commands, as I've done a few already, but do you (or anyone else) know what the menu save command is? That way I can map it to F5.

    Yes, I AM lazy!!!!

Click New Game and you can jump to any chapter you've completed.

    Cheers caged,

I *know* that, but I was just wanting to (and for future use, say in 6months time) save as many points as possible, so i dont have to play through half a chapter to get to one really cool point. I tend to do this as i always backup any saved games onto a separate drive also.

    Thanks for the reply though
